I was wondering if the shaft used for steering was longer for a on column shift vs console. I believe my car was converted to a console and that is the reason there is a quarter inch gap in the assembly. Could anyone refer me to some documentation on this and how to correct it. Thanks

Wiggy,
not real sure if there was a difference in lenght from a column or console shift but there is a difference in a power steering and manual steering. If your car is manual now and is to short it may have been a power steering car.
If this is the case you can fix it by either , replacing the power steering , or there are a few places that make adapters to swap from power to manual steering. check these two places , i have delt with both and they are both have great customer service. Firm feel is mopar specific , they may at least be able to answer your question.

I believe the "gap" formed by switching from Power to Manual is quite a bit more than .25" but I didn't measure or pay that close attention when I converted mine over since me & the other guy were just doing a 1 for 1 exchange.

I don`t know of a differewnce in length except between power & manual as mentioned but that is approx 3" difference , possible the steering shaft has been collapsed at some point

Make sure the column bolts under the dash are loose and nothing is interfering with it.Also check the splines on both the column and the pump to make sure there are no burrs or crap to bind it up.
