    Used part question

    I am starting to put together the list of parts for my 340 build and want to run Harland Sharp roller rockers and a friend of mine reccomended that I consider buying a used set to save a little on the roughly $600 price tag and I was wondering what everyone's take on running used engine parts is?

    I know some people don't like the Harland Sharp roller rockers, but my brother ran a used set in his car for about 2 years and they worked flawlessly. If they're stored properly when not on the engine I don't see the problem. Lots of people buy used adjustable rocker gear for their 340's.    :dunno:

    The big thing I like about them is the needle bearings instead of bushings. The more friction I can eliminate from the better off I'll be.

    Thats true, but its also the only thing about the harland sharp I heard people not liking, if a rocker blows, you have a bunch of tiny needles through your engine.   :bricks1:

    True, but I don't plan on spending a lot of time at high RPM and is one reason I am concerned about buying used.

    you od not reduce friction with Harland rockers , you still have a the film of oil that creates the resistance but the needle rollers you have far less contact area so it will wear the rocker shafts out

    But don't the Harland Sharps come with hardened shafts?

    all shafts are hardened , but when you reduce the load area on the shaft from 1 square inch down to a hair sized contact patch on 4-6 rollers the load on those rollers goes up dramatically

    I also thought that HS use nitration in their shafts because of the needle bearings.
    Or chrome moly, heavy walled hard chrome plated shafts.

    depends on the application , but Mopar or Crane iron rockers are vitually indestructable , I have used some of the Comp Pro Magnum stainless as well
