    70 Cuda Convertible question

    I am a newbie here and hope I may be able to get some advice. I was not looking to buy this but it was tossed in as a possible offer on a deal. Anyway I will get on with the description
    70 Cuda convertible was a 318 car but now has a 340, auto, 3:55 limited slip, gran coupe, original Plumcrazy purple, Rally hood, PS, PB.
    I know I need pictures but I did not take a camera when I went to look at it. The interior is in very nice condition and is original but the carpet. The car has 41K original miles. The car was on a rotisserie blasted and painted the bottom. The qtrs were repaired along with the doors and fenders. The body work has a lot to be desired but I am very picky. I like butt welds, shrinking disc and a real metal worker to do repairs that are not visible once done. The paint has been scuffed and buffed but to me this car would be driver quality. I am not cutting on the guys car because I know he has spent some money but I just think for the type of car it is not on par. Hope this all makes since and I would appreciate any dollar figures.

    Hey Nelson, how long is this piece of string i am holding up :dunno:

    Not to be smart buddy, but you are asking the impossible with out pictures.  Go back and take some, as poor as they may turn out, but better estimates with better pictures.  And give us a fender tag read out and a price on what he is looking at getting, we can all help out a whole lot better once you meet the criteria buddy. :2thumbs:

     I know that it would better with pictures but it is a bit of a drive. Besides it would look real nice in pictures, as they would not tell the real story. The things you see in person, it has new paint. Like I said it is on a deal and he wants me to come back with a price on the car. I think it may be too much trouble and just tell him I am not interested in the car. I know he thinks a lot of his car and has had it for many years. I do not want to offend him but I am thinking he is in the high 30”s.

    Again it would come back down to condition of everything else other than the paint.  Like the interior, engine bay, engine, tidyness of everything, overall apearance, dash condition, interior has not been hacked.  It could be a worth while car at $30,000. If it is the right car.  Fender tag details would help. :2thumbs:

    Definitely fender tag details would help here. 
      i was thinking somewhere in the 30K range with the info we currently have. 
      Is it a Gran Coupe or a Cuda?

    Three years ago you couldn't touch a running convertible E-body for less than $45K.  Two years ago people were paying $30K for the shell of a convertible.  Today a decent convertible should go for anywhere in the range of $24K to $45K.  Does the original engine, transmission and rear end come with the car?  Those items increase the value of the car.  If they original items are available, it has the engine tag on the car and most of the original parts then you would have something.  Since your ambivalent about the car offer $24k.  Saying you can get an ebody with a hemi on eBay for around $35K.  I think there were under 3,000 Plymouth’s available in 1970 and a lot of them ended up wrapped around trees or telephone poles.   A friend of mine did that three times with his 70 RT/SE testing its limits.  In the end it is only worth what you’re willing to pay for it.  My neighbor a Chevy guy says he can rebuild ten camero’s of that era for what it takes for one ebody.  Which is true!  Of course there are a lot more camero’s made than these cars.  In the end it comes down to does it wind your clock and what’s it worth to you.  Like most cars if you get what you put into it you’re generally doing pretty well.  Which is why most of us refer to our cars as our hobby!

     Thanks for all the help guys.  The interior is in very nice condition and is all original but the carpet. No rips or cracks, original radio, nice buckets and the console is in nice condition. It has gran coupe or something like that on the door panels. It looks like a cuda to me but has extra trim. It has a simulated thin wood trim insert in the door panels. It also has trim on the rockers and the rear around the tail lights and across the trunk lid. Wiging19, I know the car is not going to be touched near that and I do not want to afend him but thanks for thanks advice. The original motor is gone but everything else is still with the car. As far as condition the car was on a rotisserie, it was media blasted, painted underside, engine compartment, new lines and bolts. That all looks nice. It is something that I am not looking to keep but just happened into.

    Deos anyone have a number for production on convertible BP cars?  I can't say I have seen many Gran Coupe convertible's.  Mostly just the barracuda and cuda.

    Hey Josh,  for 1970 there were 596 slant 6 Gran Coupe & 532 V8 Gran Coupe.

    I am confused (not hard for me) did they really make gran coupe convertibles?
    Where did the overhead console go?
    I know that the challenger could not be ordered as an SE convertible but you could order it with all the SE chrome. trim
     So would the same be said about the barracuda or is it actually built & tagged as a gran coupe?
