I second the Dawn dishwashing liquid and use plenty of it both on the car and the back side of the decal.Big decals are better done with two people.I`m in so. NH and have done lots of decals as I used to do Fedex vans all the time.

If you're going to have someone else do it, it should be easy to find someone. All sign companies are basically decal companies now. They wrap entire cars, trucks, buses with decals all the time. Call a few - they'll know. I'm surprised the bodyshop didn't know - they would have stripe companies coming to repalce decals and stripes all the time. Any business trucks, etc., have decals that get replaced after paint.

If you're going to do it yourself, you can sue dishsoap, or buy the CORRECT application solution. They sell it at sign shops and from PheonixGraphics.com. It's a very slippery solution that dries slowly. And do it inside your shop at room temperature and have the right squeegie too - not something you 'think' weill work!

I am looking into a graphic companies in the are and I think I might have a lead on somebody. The bodyshop I delt with does stripes, but won't touch a big hood decal. I guess there isn't much of a demand for those anymore. If I can't find somebody local, I may give it another shot using a better solution. Thanks for the input!

Excellent points. I did mine outside on an overcast day, when the temps were in the upper 60's. It was ideal. If it is real warm the solution will dry too quickly..before you can work out all the air bubbles. My stripe kit had a squeegy with it. It is slightly larger than a credit card, but very sturdy. I'm willing to lend it out...   :grinyes:

I had a couple of guys come out from a local sign shop and put the hood decal on. They did a very professional job, and I am pleased with the results. I really like the way it makes the car look now. What do you think?

They did the "hinge" method to put it on. They peeled off the front half of the decal and carefully applied it to the hood. Once that was attached, they peeled off the back part and applied it. This allowed them to work the decal in two sections, rather then trying to do one big one.

I got the decal from Performance Car Graphics for about $100 I wanted a matte black finish using 3M material and they had just what I wanted. They also shipped out the same day I ordered it (each time )   :2thumbs:

Makes the avatar pic look rather plain looking.

Maybe I need to update my avatar. Nothing like a paint job and strips to change the look of a car. I may have to wait until spring to get a good outdoor pic since winta is almost here.
