NYC
« on: October 24, 2008 - 12:59:38 AM »
I went back to NYC on vacation last week with a couple of good friends from here in Bamaland; 6 days and five nights. They complained about the noise :smilielol: and all the people :smilielol: :smilielol: while I was the one happy as a pig in slop  Here's some pics

1 Looking up from street level at the New York Times bldg. Seems as if wall-e is looking down at me.
2 The snafu bar. Get it? Sna...fubar...snafu bar? Anyways I though it was corny-funny :D
3-7 Central Park from Top Of The Rock (70th floor of 30 Rockefeller Center)
8-9 Eric and Jud (brothers) and I at the first of what, by trip's end, would be two $300 meals :money: :22yikes: :grinyes:  This one at Ben Benson's Steakhouse. The "Double Baileys and Coffees" had a good hold of Eric while the "Crown + Rocks" knocked Jud in the dirt :smilielol: I played it safe with a glass of red wine. Pic #9 shows the $29.50 bucket of "Southern Style Chicken" in front of Eric. Jud had the $36.50 T-bone; I had the $26.50 "Slightly Smaller (16 oz. :woohoo:) Fillet Mignon". Also on hand were mashed po-tots topped with carmelized onions and a plate of calamari by my right hand. they were flavored to be slightly spicy and actually cooked right. I think I may have polished off most of them   after the cucumber\sweet onion\diced tomato salad and before my steak.
10 A night shot of the Empire State Building.

1 Out for a stroll across the street from the front entrance to the main branch of the NYC Public Library.
2 There is renovation proceeding on almost every block it seemed - and therefore demolition. Phase 1 Demolition had this funny take-off of Dr. Evil and Mini-me on the side of their truck. If you don't have a sense of humor, what's the point?
3-5 Sandwiches waiting to be served at Ben's Deli  Our table - that's a Salami-on rye to the left that i'm about to chow down on   Meat and potatoes RULE!!! :droolingbounce:
6 A three-wheeler outfitted to promote one of the many upcoming Halloween-themed events.
7 Anyone remember these?

Thats a sweet car, but why the $5 looking walmart hupcaps?   Should get some better looking rims on a car that pricey.   :money:

1 - 6 The architecture just caught my eye. Six is looking up at Top of the Rock from street level.
7 You can grow a garden in front of you house if you live on the Lower East Side but it won't be too big :grinno
8 - 9 Folks arriving for the 8PM Broadway shows on 46th street.
10 I'm sure it is a smart car. But not if you're about to drive it two blocks from Times Square  :eek2:

Gotta avoid looking at those pics of the deli sandwiches.

8 - 9 There were tons of Mercedes 550s, BMW 7 Series, top of the lines Lexus', new shiny black Escalades and Suburbans (our rooms werew on E 39th between Third and Lexington), but I never expected to spot a Nissan Skyline :burnout:

Sounds like SoCal.     Was it a real Skyline (right-hand drive) or a rebadged G35?  I saw one of those at the grocery store last week.  I have seen a real R34 Skyline here once or twice (Think "2 Fast 2 Furious" at the beginning of the movie.)

3 - 4 The store cat of the neighborhood grocery store up the street from our hotel, the Murray Hill East. The traffic never fazed this guy. He had his territory and Life was good!!
5 Yeah, right :poopoke: :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

I missed a shot of the Naked Cowboy as he was there too in all his err glory :smilielol: We attended one Broadway show, Gypsy, with Patti Lupone  after our second $300 meal, at Sardi's. But the real highlight was seeing Lindsey Buckingham at the Nokia Theatre on the final show of his current tour. Lindsey did hint that there may be dates added in the future. Two hour show and not a pick in sight; as we were leaving I asked one of the soundboard staff if I could have his copy of the playlist. True musician, fantastic evening. Go see his show if he happens to be playing near you - you won't be disapointed :ylsuper: :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

Left-hand drive. A rebadge i'm guessing.

Hey Russ,

Thanks for the pictures. Manhattan is always a blast to visit. So much to do and so little time.
I like going down Mulberry street in little Italy with their callers trying to get you to come into their restaurant.
You can't beat the food there. Any deli sandwich you try is the best you ever had.

I'd love to take Hemiken there. It would be just like Crocodile Dundee. :roflsmiley:
