Rallye vs. Non-rally wiring/guages

I'm planning on converting my '70 Challenger non-rallye dash to a Rallye.   If I find a rallye dash harness, will I still have to contend with wiring changes from the engine compartment to the connection to the dash harness (for the tach, example)   In other words, is the engine wiring harness that connects through the firewall to the dash harness already contain all necessary wires/connections for a Rallye -- or are they different also?   (I hope this is clear)

generally no , the std harness will not have a tach connection on either sidfe of the firewall , I would just modify the Std harness for the ralley dash , I think there is one extra port in the bulkhead connector for the tach wire

Chryco, do you know where to get new bulkhead connectors? All the ones I have are pretty crispy. Not trying to hi-jack by the way

Hi Vermont, try Real Time Engineering www.rt-eng.com as they do a wiring conversion from non rallye harness to rallye gauges and it is listed at $50.00. :2thumbs:

Modifying the standard harness to a rallye is not that bad at all, that's all I did. You probably know this already, but in case you don't, the clock & trip meter resets are different on a '70/'71 than '72/'74.

yes , the earlier resets are remote beside the guage , later go through the face of the guage

Yep!   got it!    Also the Tach is different (7,000 vs. 8,000) -- and the "fasten seat belt" light.   I think that's about it for differences between the '70/71's and the '72-74's -- at least as far as you can see sitting behind the wheel -- Am I Correct?

Yep, you are correct. I think the switch panel should only have writing for the switches and NO symbols.

Well, I got the wiring kit from RTE this a.m. (along with a few other expensive knobs and things).   I sprung for the quartz clock conversion kit assuming it would be needed.   But, this morning I decided to check out the clock (I bought this instrument cluster several months ago on ebay) -- hooked it up to a battery and  :droolingbounce:  it clicked and worked!   So -- now I have to decide if I should install the darn quartz kit anyway -- obviously not knowing how long it will work.....     :clueless:    Any advice?
