Looking for any methods or suggestions on separating my round tailights. To clean inside there, and also maybe attempt to retrofit some LEDs into...

From the ones I have I dont think they were made to come apart. I bet you could do it and easily plastic weld them back together when you got your work done. It would probably help to use some spare ones so you would not be rushed on time to do the work.

Goody
I have never tried to take them apart but I have seen the lenses only for sale NOS so I would say they were made to come apart .
Good luck

I got curious enough to look at the ones I have. They have tabs on them and slots in the black plastic housing so they will come apart. I think you will have to be careful not to break the tabs, it looks like the black plastic housing is the place to pry enough space to release the lens. Good luck.

They have LED white composite replacement bulbs for older cars @ AutoZ for $16/pair. 13.8 V rated. Then all you have to do is change the bulb from inside the trunk.

am interested in doing something like this also. I like the way the G35 LED taillights look and would like to see something like them on the Cuda

Why go brighter? It only makes you stand out and it's easier to be followed by the speed cops. I used to go duller with 1057's instead of the 1157 tail lights. But, I can see it would be a nice art project to upgrade to those skyrocket type displays. Use a very fine hack saw to separate the red lens from the black plastic and re-glue with superglue + Tak Pack (3M) hardener for instant bonding.

Why go brighter? Because other driver's are stupid and hardly pay attention. I hardly would think that cops would be attracted to brighter tails when I'm driving a bright yellow, loud muscle car to begin with...

Also a little heat from a heat gun and i am able to separate them and reattach them with no problem.

dull lights fade quicker on the highway, and let you avoid being targeted. go ahead and run neon while your at it.   :dupe: or add a rear window brake  :scared: display :roflsmiley:

You aroused my curiosity so I tried the red LED replacements. I like them, because they do not glow on and off, they flash with dark moment between. They also do not glow to the side as much, but directly behind they pop out when the brakes are on. Plus no extra work for the experiment and they use less amps to run. (Never said I running from the cops, just losing the pack animals.)  :aarg:
