How hard -- 440/4bbl to 440/6 pack?

How difficult is it to convert an auto 440 4 bbl to 6 Pack?  I have a chance to get a 440 car, want a 6 pack, but can't afford it, so next best thing is to convert.  Is it pretty easy?  Six Pack Performance sells everything in kit form, I have read.

It's a piece of cake. Just order a complete 6 pack kit (I bought mine on ebay for a little more than $2,000) they are complete intake to air cleaner and have all the linkage, fuel lines and such that you will need.

This is a stupid question, but what type of hood do you have? I'm just wondering if there might be clearance issues.

Stock 6 pack shouldn't have a clearance issue with any hood. Although the flat hood may now that i think about it.

Thanks.  :thumbsup:  I thought that was the case, but I wasn't sure.

You could always adapt a six-pack hood scoop to your car too.   :grinyes:

You can save a few hundred usually by piecing out the parts from multiple suppliers.   Carbs and intake were the cheapest, on ebay.   The rest I got better deals from places like Mancini and Mancinotti (?) and Summit racing.

The conversion is easy.  If you live where it gets hot in the summer, be sure to get a Idle solenoid and it will fix your run-on.    I didnt need one until it got to the mid 90*s and after that I really needed one.    Ebay has them for 105$.   I had to re-build the one I got though as it started not to have enough oooomph to keep the plunger up.  Some magnet wire from Radio shack for 5$ and it works great again.

There may be a few parts beyond that youll have to source out, but nothing huge.

I seem to remember the bracket that holds the throttle cable/kickdown to the intake is different. The whole thing mounts a bit further back.
You can use the existing throttle cable but the six pack one was shorter due to the bracket being in a different place. It just means you have to loop the existing cable slightly. No big deal.


You may need to modify the kickdown levers. I can't remember why because it was so many years ago but I had to lengthen one rod and shorten the other. Probably for the same reason above.
