Same here Al, and wider tires would make it even worse.  I wouldn't put the power unit back in, too heavy and the manual just feels better.

I have power steering, its going to be pretty easy to check i'll just put my 255's on the front, 235's on the back and go for a drive and see if they rub, if not i'll take the 235's and put the 275's on, if they do, i'll put the 235's back up front and take the 255's and put the 275's on.     :2thumbs:

I am running 235/70/15 in the front, 275/60/15 in the rear. I went with the 235/70/15 in the front as I wanted the front & rear tires to be the same height (the inner front fender lips have been rolled).

Tough Choice here to be made. My 'Cuda does not have power steering by the way. The funny thing is I had 275s in front and 315s in back on my '70 440-6 Challenger R/T and nothing ever rubbed. I was more concerned about style and performance, but now this new element as been introduced. I can see some rubbing marks on my Cuda's inner fender from a different set of tires that was on it. Right now the car currently has a hardcore drag set up of pizza cutters in the front and 28x12.5 MT's in the back

When you switch to 235 or 245 on the front you will definitely notice a huge difference in steering especially with a hemi up front. At low to no speeds you will be getting a work out.

Some say anything over 235/60/15 (Challenger) will rub. I would guess only in a hard corner hitting a bump though.

How about trying a set of bias ply Delta 60s on for size. :eek7:

They're wrong or had terrible back spacing. I run 245s and have never rubbed, hit or even come close. It's perfect.
I have also seen 265s on the front of a 1970 Challenger R/T S.E. - stock. Seen it in person several times (car below).

 :iagree:

Its all about the right rim for the size tire you're running. The larger tires will need more backspacing for clearance, so if you really want good info you should have everyone post their backspacing with the tire size as well.

I'll state this one more time....3 cudas, all factory 15 X 7 rallye wheels with 245-60-15 front tires, and ALL three rubbed the inner frame rail to some degree. I'm not wrong and it's not terrible backspacing....thats a factory 4 1/2 inch backspace if i remember correctly. It's pretty obvious that every car is going to be a little different and maybe you get away with the slight rub and maybe it just clears. This is a rub at full lock BTW. Even the alignment of the front end can make a difference, as well as tire manufacturer. Tires can vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. Best bet is to try a set first if you can get ahold of some tires/wheels in the combo you are considering and see if they rub.

Heres another consideration...one time i was pulling into a space at Carlisle and the car had to back up a hill over the lip. (remember the year E-bodies were up on the hill about 3-4 years ago?) I had the wheels turned as i backed in and the tire caught the wheel well trim and bent it. Not my imagination, had to take it off and straighten it out. That was a 245-60-15 BFG T/A radial on a 15X7 stock rallye wheel. This was my red 71 hemicuda clone.

Can people get away with 275's or 245's on the front...yes they can. Custom offsets can help get more tire clearance, but the fact is if you run 15 X 7's with factory backspacing and 245-60-15's you run the chance that your tire will rub the frame rail or in some instances catch the wheel well lip. Only way to be sure of clearance is to check it, and not just sitting still in a parking lot.

 Whoa, sorry mate, no offence LOL. ;) I must restate my posts as I've been posting in regards to Challengers. I have found that 4-1/4" is perfect on Challengers. The only way to know for sure is borrow a rim/tyre combo and measure it with your own vehicles set up. Best of luck original poster, keep us posted and show us your combo once done. You're on the right track - doing your home work.

Peace.

No worries there carl...just dont want someone to buy a set of tires/wheels and find out after spending the $$ that they have a clarance problem.

No worries mate. IMO, all answers on forums should be taken with a grain of salt.
Once you see the consensus or a pattern then make your own judgement from that, that's probably the best way to go.
