70' Cuda Rallye Hood Questions
« on: October 31, 2008 - 05:41:57 PM »
The two inserts in my hood on my 70' Cuda were pretty warped up.  After removing them I found them to be made of some sort of plastic or bakelite.  I found a replacement set on ebay and when they came, they are all metal with factory stampings on the back.  But they also don't seem to fit.
Can anyone shed some light for me on this topic.  Maybe different years used different inserts?  Maybe the plastic ones I have are aftermarket?  Why won't the metal ones fit?

Thanks

They should be made out of metal. i think they called it pot metal. Kind of like aluminum.

definatly the factory ones are pot metal , possibly the whole hood is a repop with the plastic inserts in a bad hood stamping ?

:iagree: My first 70 Cuda had a rally hood and the inserts were made of pot metal.

Are the part numbers 2998 212 & 2998 213, that's what's in the parts book and on my spare set. They're left and right specific, have you tried them every which way. Maybe there's too much paint on them; or too bent or too straight (see pic). BTW, mine are the "metal" type.

Yep, those are the two parts I have.  I swore yesterday I tried putting them in every which way but today, they dropped right in...  There truly is a left and right one.
Thanks for the help.

One last question, were they flat, satin or gloss black on a factory car?

I have always seen then match the hood color. I have seen them in a different color than the hood but didn't much care for the look. They look like eyebrows when in a different color.

Wow, I just assumed they were always black.  Maybe I need to look around some.
