Add a Leaf - DONE ! ! !
« on: October 31, 2008 - 07:09:05 PM »
You guys were right, I just finished adding a leaf. The car rides better and turns better. The rear is up about  1 1/2'', it looks better too! I brought the front up 1 1/2'' also.
I went to a place in South Bend (IN.), about 20 miles from my house. The place is called '' Power Brake and Spring ''.The guy there was fantastic, he told me what to take apart, which parts to bring him and also had me measure a few things. He cut a new leaf and bent me some new U Bolts while I waited. I was in and out of there in 30 minute. All he needed to know is how high I wanted to go.
Thanks for pushing me in the right direction, and remember, just say no to air shocks................

I forgot to do the before pictures!

After driving a bit more, I found the actual new height to be 1'' higher ( not 1 1/2'' ). Measuring from the floor to the center of the wheel trim, ( at least I remembered to measure) I was 24'', I'm now at 25''.
Again, the handling is much better, a lot of the roll over in the cornering is gone. The other big improvement is the ride quality, it is MUCH smoother! ! !
FYI - My tire sizes are as follows : Rear - P245/60R14,   Front - P215/70R14  That may be helpful to some people after I post a few pictures.

I'm also amazed at how much different the car looks with a slight 1'' difference in height. I wouldn't have thought that to be noticeable at all.

Cost = $108.50, that got me two 54'' leafs, two long plastic things to go between the new leafs and the original top leaf, new U bolts w/ nuts and washers, new center bolts and nuts, and four leaf clamps/retainers. I thinks that's higher than most guys are spending, but there was a lot of value to me for these reasons. I like supporting the local guy, I got EVERYTHING with one stop, plus a bunch of great how to tips from a guy that's worked there 23 years. They let me go out in the shop, I watched them bend the U bolts while he talked me through the assembly.

Thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She sits just about right now. Maybe a little high in front but that's just my opinion. Easy to play with though.

I agree, dropped the front a bit, looks SWEEEEEEET ! ! ! ! !

I may take the rear up another inch, I'm afraid that may be too much with 14'' tires...............For now, I'm just going to enjoy the improvements !

The place looks like a dump, it's called '' PBS, or Power Brake and Spring ". I think they sold springs to cave men, it looks like they've been there forever they're on Western Blvd. The guy to call is Jim Urlich ( Great guy ) 574-288-2986.
What size tires do you have?
