Steering shaft

With the steering column removed from the car, what is the best way to remove the remove the shaft so it can be refinished on a 71 chally?

the inner shaft is retained at the top in the brg with a snap ring & the lock plate also has to be removed to slide the shaft out , so you have to disassemble most of the top of the column , might as well remove thal the parts & clean & paint all of it
