Pretty sure that's fake.

In my opinion this is a fake.  I have a friend who owns a couple of planes and one day we where going to take one of his planes out for a trip and he said hey lets stop in next store and say hi to the guys over there.  He said the guy next door is a pilot for the red bull air racing team.  So we go into the hanger and sure enough there are three of those red bull air race planes being assembled.  My buddy introduces me to the guys assembling the planes and they ask us if we could give them a hand with installing the wing (in this case both wings were a single wing stucture) on one of the planes.

So we go over to the far side of the hanger and in this huge case (and I do mean an actual shipping case) was the wing.  We went around and undid all the latches and lifted of the top half case off (it took six guys to do this) and inside is the wing.  The wings were a one piece structure that all of us had to lift up and move over to the plane.  I can't remember if we had to slip it thru the body of the place or put on top or below the body so a couple of guys could bolt it on.  But what I do remember was that it was heavy and we needed to be careful lifting it in certain places as to not break off a small part of the wing (I guess it was made out of some exotic materal).

The plane in the video looks very similar to plane we put the wing on so I highly doubt half the wing could break off no less as cleanly as it did in the video.  My guess is this was an RC plance that someone doctored up the video to look like the real thing.   :2cents:

looks fake.....
I looked pretty good till the landing.
That, and I think physics dictates this is not possible.

I read some on this video on another blog site and some of the input was by an actual pilot that stated that the plane spun in the wrong direction when the wing came off. It looks like a doctored video of a Bill Hempel RC plane. You can do a google search of Bill Hempel and actually see him land an RC plane when the wing comes off. Some of his planes have as much as a 15 foot wing span. If it is fake, someone did a pretty good job. But it's hard to believe it's real when some of the aerodynamic facts were pointed out. who knows?? :dunno: Interesting anyway!!

Yeah, if you look at the discussion in the link from my follow-up post, you can see that people talk about stunt pilots being able to do a manuever called a knife-edge in which they essentially helicopter the plane and dance it sideways.  I've never seen it, but I've only attended one air show in the last five years.  But that one was cool - a private Blue Angels show out in the middle of the desert for the Navy League.  Just one of the little perks of my job.   :ylsuper:
