    Fushion welding is supposed to be a very good way to repair cracks.


    Would be cool to see how he does it, welding cast iron from what I understand is pretty tricky and has to be done when the part is really hot. I would think this is one of those vanishing arts.
    Also talked to my buddy, he recommended Indy Cylinder Head, he said they started out just doing hemi heads. No matter what or how you get it fixed, I hope they can fix it.

    If you read press release, it goes into explaining how it's done.
    I agree about seeing a video of it being done would be pretty interesting.
    I'll ask him if he could provide one or pics at least.

    No pics on when he was doing it. He didn't have a camera.

    But here it is right after I picked it up. He beefed up the outside a little too so that corner is now much stronger than before. The bolt hole will need to get re drilled. It has a graphite tube inside I think is what he said.
    A little more work and it'll be good as new.

    looks like there is still a crack to the left of the repair?

    Looks like that is where the weld stopped, one the new seat is ground it should be good to go.

    Heads are underway being done now. After they get out, I plan to port match intake runners to heads. Also, polish out areas behind the intake. I expect to get the heads out this March.

    This week I had the weld repair drilled out on my head.

    I took the head out of the machine shop that's doing the heads and went to my friend whose a mechanic. He bought a drill guide bushing and cleaned out the weld repair which is a push rod hole. did a great job.

    When I took the head from them initally, they said "You'll be sorry, big risk!" in so many words. Yesterday I brought it back. They looked at it and said "He didn't drill it, he must've used a mill like we were planning on doing.  ::)



    Also went to CSK to pick up my Fel Pro head gaskets. #1106 listed at 82.99. I pick em up and go home. Open the box and it's just 1 head gasket. They tell me that's what they cost each. Long story short, they were right. $180 bucks a pair. That's a Hemi for ya.

    Heads are back.

    Next check how the ports match up. So far it doesn't look like there is a significant amount of difference to warrant port matching. 5-10 HP increase isn't worth the extra work IMO. The valves will require valve lash caps. Manley valves w/10 degree keepers




    Last pic, on the way home.  :biggrin:


    Just need the intake picked up from bead blasting and the rocker shafts polished, and that should do it.

    They prevent oil from draining into the cylinder when you pull the spark plugs and tubes.
