Good Luck President Obama!! I agree with most of you, it's not about his color. The media doesn't see it that way. FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT!!!! We all know his family heritage. I did see where in one state, one on the east coast, where he received 97% of the black vote, but hey, it's not about race is it??

I don't feel that it's the job of the government to fix gas prices.  If we learn to conserve more gas during the work week, we will have no trouble paying for gas for our weekend toys.   The last few months have been an adjustment for me.  When gas hit $4 I started carpooling and driving my truck less.  It's tough because I love my Dakota, but it's been worth it and it really has saved money on fuel.

That being said, I think this is good a step forward in that a person of mixed race is leader of our melting pot. 

BP23G0B, Thanks for the link!  Pretty interesting in what that guy had to say.  I can't say I agree with everything, but most his comments make good sense.  I went though the 1st gas crisis back in the 70s and like he said the energy crisis / oil dependence should have been taken care of long ago.  If we can send a man to the moon and develop nuclear weapons/power, I don't see why we can't solve our own problems.

Yep, he's very charismatic, well versed.     I hope he's as good a President as he is a campaigner and speaker as well. 

  I wonder if globally the US will be veiwed differently since there is an African American President now.  I wonder if countries will be more willing to work with the US?  That might be also because Bush is out of the office.

The european media has swooned over Obama and our leftist politicians has done likewise. It should be hard for them not to be friendlier to USA now. Which is about bloody time.

That's what I can foresee, more countries being nicer and tolerating the USAs sometimes rash decisions and more countries willing to work with America which is obviously a very good thing. Even the Iran leader congratulated Obama. Obama is just a likable guy. Experience or not, some people have a gift and are people people, IMO, Obama is one of them. I for one am over the moon that Dee Dubya is out of office, he was a laughing stock around the world and I know many American were ashamed of voting for him, not once, but twice!?!? LOL WTF? Time will tell, Obama plays a good rock concert, lets see him drive the band bus.

On the other side of the fence, McCain blew it by voting for the bailout - period.  Had he done the truly "Maverick" thing and voted "no" he would have had Obama calling him to concede. 

I really didn't want to reply to this post, but I gotta say I disagree with that point.  I think he blew it by puting Palin on the ticket - I think he'll regret that for a long, long time.  I don't care what anyone says, that woman had absolutely no business being in the White House.  She was CLUELESS, and we as a country were shown that time and time again.  Now, people will argue that she has more experience than Obama, but if that's true, no one ever managed to prove it.  Obama never ended up with his foot in his mouth as Palin did time and time again.  Very, very poor decision, and I think a true insult to our country too - even Republican analysts believe that it was simply a ploy to play the "sex" card against the "race" card.

I'd say this is just my opinion, but I know for a fact that it's shared by many, many others.

Well said Jeff. I agree 100%. As I said earlier, experience is nice but sometimes it's not all that matters. Obama has shown a very level head in heated moments and handles himself very well, that comes down to who he is, polls, stats and reporters can't argue that, it's his personality. You either have it or you don't - he does. The Palin move was strictly to get the female votes and as you said Jeff, the "sex" card. If you say otherwise you're kidding yourself and know it. Politics is nothing more than people chess, strategic manoeuvres and thinking ahead will often lead to victory. Also, is it just me or did McCain seem really, really, tired in the last 3-5 days? His speeches became more like tape recordings and it was like he was thinking; "I HAVE to say this stuff". Almost like he was literally exhausted from the campaign and he'd run out of puff. I thought McCain's speech was good, at least he left with his head up.

I hope I am wrong but personally I think that " IT IS THE BIGINNING OF THE END " of this country - They will never convince me that abortion is OK--never take my Guns away from me--paying higher taxes will save the country and supporting ILLEGAL aliens but giving them driver licenses-health care-welfare benifits that we have to pay for.  Under his tax plan my taxes will double which will put me close to losing MY HOUSE !  so forgive me if I am not jumping up and down with excitement.

I believe USA is a lot tougher than you give it credit for.  
After all, one of the former presidents that USA survived having was a peanut farmer that once got mugged by a rabbit,
the wonderfully inept Jimmy Carter.
That said, I hope you all will get a better life, and that doesn't come to you being taxed to blood.

If we ( the dutch people ) had to vote, 85 % ( ! ) would have voted Obama....  I personally think it`s great Obama won, but I also know there is no more difficult time to step into a job like that.  It`s impossible to have everyone happy, but I hope most people will be.

Since most other countires don't appreciate our military help, I think we should just call everybody home and let them have at it. We should just build a big wall around our country, and just let everybody else fend for themselves, Good Luck!!
 I think it's crazy that most of the world has this negative opinion about our country, after what we did to save their butts in WWII and other conflicts around the world in the last 60 years. Pretty sad really. I live in a community where the average age is 72, so there are still a few WWII vets around here, it's too bad that generation is almost gone, very sad.
