My new old car
« on: November 05, 2008 - 10:42:26 PM »
My first REAL car was a '68 Roadrunner. As army pay for a private in '69 was only $89 and the car payment was $92 and change it went away. Picked up a cherry '68 Suprbee a few years later but the oil embargo/gas crunch of the 70s along with a wife and a baby boy a couple of years later forced me to sell it. Now I am back in the saddle with my '68 Barracuda fastback. I wish I cold take the credit for puitting it all together but I have to take my hat off to "JLC" and his crew.

385 hp 360 crate motor, Mighty Demon carb, ss headers and exhaust, aluminum radiator with fan, serpentine belt drive, Holley fuel pump, K&N air filter, 727 with a Hurst DualGate shifter, 8.75 "locker" rear end with 3.23 gears, custom ordered Centerline Razor Billet wheels 17X8 with Micheline Pilot Sport tires (255/45/17 and 215/45/17), all new interior, dyno-tuned with the distributor recurved and the carb set up. A little over 300 hp to the ground, just barely enough horsepower to make it to the grocery store and back. I made a run to 5500 rpm this past Sunday (26" diameter tires) so it will go a tad faster than the speed limit.   It still has a few rough edges but ..........

Nice barracuda! however the pictures are pretty big and kinda hard to get a whole shot of the car.

Also if you find you have any fuel system concerns, you may want to move the electric pump back near the tank. Since electric pumps work best as pushers (they push better than suck, which is why it's best by the tank).

Thanks, I am not good at posting photos as you can tell. I will resize them next time. The fuel pump is an issue. There is no safe place near the tank to put the Holley so I am getting an in-line pump that will mount alonside the frame on the passenger side.

Welcome to the site.  That's one sweet looking car.     And it still has a blue 70's plate - very cool.  What part of CA are you from?

Thanks to you all. It feels great to be back behind the wheel. For the next time, what resolution is best for posting images on the forum?

Very nice.  I remember my Grandmother had one very similar and black, but with a slant 6 I think, back in the early 70s.  Of course, she was still relatively young and hip, so it wasn't a "granny mobile", just a nice, sporty little car.

Wish I had that car in my garage.
