Maybe it's time.
« on: November 07, 2008 - 07:17:02 AM »
Been doing a lot of thinking, maybe too much.  But with the economy set to tank, my taxes going up, the suspension of drilling about to raise gas prices again,  an increase in costs to stave off "global warming" and the real possibility that the company I work for may not survive the increases in health care costs & taxes on the "rich", I may just sell off everything before there's no one left to buy it.  Maybe I'm wrong,  maybe none of this will happen, but do I dare bet the future of my family on it ?  It's a hobby (a great one), but food, clothing and shelter are more important.

I'll say it first   :drama:

Same thoughts have crossed my mind, but I have to believe in this country and I have to support the powers that be, we will face some hard times but like the saying goes, if it don't kill us it will make us stronger. I refuse to be a defeatist so I will keep working and pray that it all turns out for the best for our great country. You have to do what you think is best for you and yours and I hope it works out to be the right choice for you, good luck.  :wavingflag:

I didnt get my car to re sell it. I drive mine. It is a hobby, not an investment. So I dont really worry about the value as much as some of the others. This is not dooms day as it is. If you enjoy your toys for what they are, then keep them. Are you and your spouse selling off all the jewelry as well?  You know things you don't need?  Just hang in there and enjoy your cars for what they are. If your tired of them, then sell them.  But you will want another one after you sell them some time later on in the future.  When gas went from 19 cents to 50 cents a gallon and up, lots of the older guys sold their toys. Then bought them again.. Houses went from 20k to 200k everything changes. Just hang in there.

wiiildcat,

I have and always will believe in this country.  I've been through recessions before,  but this time I have a family to consider.  It would be irresponsible not to look out for them.

Big Al,

I too bought mine to drive the pi$$ out of.  Haven't been able to do much of that so far (my fault).  I'll never tire of them.  Value means nothing to me, while I'm driving them.  But if I have to sell them to keep our heads above water, I need to get as much as I can.  And yes, we're liquidating as much as we can, while we can.  I'm even selling off my book collection that took the better part of 30 yrs. to put together.  I am not anywhere near hurting for cash, but I can't take the chance on getting that way.  As for gas, I'm not worried about feeding my toys, I'm worried about feeding the beast that carries me to work every day.

P.G.  seems like that is only a short term solution tho.  Once that extra money is gone.  I learned the hard way on that. If the money runs out before the solution to extra income gets in, then all is gone and it just gets worse.

I'd like to see you to be able to keep all you have and trim back on maybe monthly outgoing stuff as much as possible. Every little thing helps.  Keep your books and toys. Don't let someone else reap from for fears

Or sell the Gas Guzzling Daily Driver and buy a Toyota.....  :misbehaving:

Maybe you can keep one car, assuming you have multiple......  :dunno: Al is right though. Wait until you try to Re-Buy a Mopar in a couple years when the Market goes back up. You saw how crazy prices got around the year 2001 or so .......  :money:

I agree with Al here. Mine are paid for so they don't hurt a thing if they have to set for a few years till this all comes around again. I've been trying to sell the RR so I can have room for a new Chally and it's not going well. I'm not about to give it away just to move it. If it dosn't sell I can still drive it. It's hard to believe that the car makers are so hard up around here anyway. They still don't want to deal on the new ones. I would think if they were hurting that bad they would deal like crazy to move the inventory.
We have spent the past 30 years setting our self up for retirement so as of know EVERYTHING we have is paid for with exception of the house. It's got 6 years and it's done to. We don't owe credit cards nothing cause we only have 1 and it's paid for also. I watched my parants get over extended when I was young and said I was never going to get that way and I haven't. I have friends that are up to the eyeballs in credit card bills. Everything they have is on credit and I just shake my head. I see them going under if this gets any worse. I have one friend thats over 100K into credit cards. I don't see him making it much longer. The moral I guess is if you are financially sound I see no need to panic and sell off your pride and joys.

I guess you`re already pretty late if you want to sell toys...  people with money see it coming as well so they keep their money in the pocket too.
I agree with Alan`100%...  the money will be gone in the blinck of an eye and then there is nothing left to play with. Things are becoming lousy overhere too, good chance I lose my job,  gas prices have been unbelievable for quiet some time here, ( about $9.50 a gallon ) but I will never sell my Cuda.
It`s something I wanted for almost 20 years...I finally got one and it`s payed for. If I cannot afford the fuel I will pop a beer, sit and look at it as art...
don`t sell man... you will regret

wally426ci,

The gas guzzler is a Shelby Turbo Z that gets 40 MPG.

I guess I can always wait till the wolf's at the door before i sell off my toys, but I still think I'll get more for them today than in a year.

Your call , right now I would be buying not selling like everyone is , the markets Always cycle up & down & selling when the price is bottomed out is just the wrong way to me , if it is not costing you $$ to keep it I would , , if you need more $$ get a better payiong job , or start doing something on the side that generates more income , or sell short in the stock market as everthing is crashing
