Just trying to prepare myself for the body shop estimate :22yikes.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

What kind of dollars do you think this going to cost to sand body down align front fenders,  minimal rust repair rear quarter paint Go-mango,,,,,,,  body shop will get car minus bumpers and all trim grill and lights,  only windows will be lift in.

Hoping for less than 8 grand for really nice work with a clear coat and stripe.......

Are you going for show or driver quality.  We have a shop here that does a great job that priced me  $3000 to $5000.  I thought that was high.  And I didn't get it paint there either.  Mine was done by a couple of guys that do work on the side and for the price I paid,  I am pleased. I would shop around some...............just my  :2cents:

There is a thread about restorations being done you can get a good paint job done with some minor body work for 8-10 grand but when you get into rust work be prepared. Also when car is sanded down you dont know what you will run into.Just supplies of paint, primer, body supplies, etc can run 2-3k easy.

I just painted my own car (see Chilly Challenger thread) and it was about 2K in materials! When I worked in a shop (many years ago) it was 16 hours to spray prmimer and block (ONCE), plus 12 hours to prep and paint, plus 8 hours to color sand. That's NO bodywork, no trim having to be removed (as per yours). That's 36 hours. At an $85.oo shop rate = 3060.00. Together thats $5000.00 for your basic paint job today. ADD for stripes, two-tone and bodywork. ADD lots for rust work!

it really depends on what you're looking for and the shop you choose, how dedicated and experienced are the body and paint guys that will be working on it,but if I was to take this car in my shop, you'd be looking at around 10k, and you'd be getting every penny's worth,glass-like finish all the way to the rockers ,no trash or orange peel,no painted over brake boosters or blower fan motors or suspension, remember, you get what you pay for! oh and ask alot of questions,as well as have everything written on the repair order as far as what will be done to the car, good luck

if you're only paying $5000 for body and paint, you can expect to need another paint job in about 2 years.  I'd be shocked if a legit. shop could do minimal rust repair, get the car straight, and paint it for under 20k, to do a fair job.  The shop I work at, if  car came to me with all metal work done, i would get all the door gaps, etc correct and flush, fit all the trim, do body and paint, sand, buff, assemble the body; it's a minimum of 35k.  a good show quality paint job can be figured at 1,000 hours of labor.  To do a good, quality job without the paint falling off in a year for a "driver" id still guess around 500 hours.
