ViperMan returning the favors...
« on: November 10, 2008 - 09:51:02 AM »
Quick, cute story...

I had the Viper and Cuda sitting side-by-side at my apartment and some kids were out playing football in the yard.  Well a guy (dad?) came running out and tells them to get away from the nice cars.  Well then the two kids, the "guy," and a younger woman who used to live in our complex all end up out there looking at the two cars.  Now mind you, these are kinda redneck people, but their hearts were in the right places.

So I just sorta stroll out to watch.  The guy and kids are oogling over the Viper, the woman is goin' on about the 'Cuda.  The guy sees me and asks if the Viper is mine.  I replied, "Actually, they both are."  Man did their eyes ever get huge...  :)

So I'm out there, talking about the cars, answering questions, yes it's a V10, no it's only a 318, yes it's really fast, yeah I'm going to restore it...  ...no I'm not the landlord...  :)

Finally the guy offers me twenty bucks to take his one son around the block - I told him keep the money, and told his kid to climb in.  I ended up giving both of the kids a ride around the block.  I'd have given the guy a ride around, but he was smoking a cigarette.   :nono:

Totally made their day.  The guy kept going on about how excited the kids were and how thankful he was...  I told him that I was 20 years old when I finally got my first ride in a Viper, and that I had always hoped that one day I could return the favor.

:)

When I owned a Viper, a group of us were invited to an Autozone to drum up business by giving free rides to whoever wanted one.  We were all busy for the day taking dozens of kids and others for spirited rides.  Nobody got a ticket and all had a blast.  Kids were especially impressed -- for many, it was their dream car.

Oh, yeh, Autozone gave us all a very nice gift basket of about a dozen car care products.  Was fun.

You did a good thing, Viperman.

Cool story, Jeff.  I almost got a ride in a very nice '96 GTS many years back, but the owner got mad at some of my uncle's Chevy-loving friends talking smack about it and he left early.  :'(  I'd still love to get a quick spin in one and if you want, I'll show you what "just" a twin-turbocharged V-6 can do when I make it to Carlisle in '09. :2thumbs:
