:iagree: Maybe I'm just overly cautious, mine is going to be all welded together before rotisserie (floors and cowl left to do).  :2cents: I may be wrong!

I was planning on putting it on a rig to do the sheetmetal welding.  I don't know how straight the car is anyways, I need to measure it anyways.

I was curious though...  Since the suspension is mounted to the frame rails, and if the car measures out good - why wouldn't it be better to hang the sheet metal while it's on the rotisserie?  Wouldn't this closely mimic the stress on the shell when the car is on it's wheels?

I appreciate your advice and will be putting it on a rig to do the sheetmetal.  I'm just curious.  I know what seems like would work in theory isn't always the way it is!!!

Great to see your progress Sean!! Would it be possible to flip the rear rotis. support 180* so the plate is not under the car?... would take more length but might give you access if needed.

Didn't think about that!  I sure could.  However, I'd have an issue would be the holes lining up in the rotating collar.  I'd have to drill new holes where the green circle is.

The suspension supports the car at these points (red circles). Our cars rely on the rails and the body to "stay straight". I remember being able to wiggle my rear frame rails by hand before the trunk floor and quarters were welded in. Your car is supported only at the ends, which might allow the car to flex (especially at the rear). I relied on the suspension to support for the panel changes. was afraid to even load on a trailer till everything was welded. I'm planning to support at multiple points (red and yellow circles) for floorboard replacement and firewall / cowl repairs. However, Sean... I am probably going overboard!  :blah:  :screwy:

I welded a motorcycle chainwheel to the rotating part and a couple bushings to the frame. Put a long through the bushings into the chainwheel and you can place the car in any position you like.   :2thumbs:

I used a big jamb bolt to lock into any position i wanted . I welded two 3/4 nuts to the swivel, so i could lock it down tight.

Gotcha!  Thanks for the explaination!!!   :2thumbs:

Nice rotisserie!  I like the way you used he motorcycle gear to hold the angle, LOTS of options!!!

Got the Cuda back to the house and in the garage last night.  That's the good news.  Unfortunately, it stayed out in the rain over the weekend while I was in Chicago.  Not problem right, it was already covered in epoxy primer.  Well, come to find out, I got it a little thin in a few spots and some of the rust came back.  Should be easy to clean up with a scotchbrite pad and then cover it with a little more epoxy primer.  Small set back but not a tremendous one.

I spent a little time cleaning up the rust on the outward facing side of the drivers front inner wheel well, Cowl hinge panel and the area around the driver's side door opening.  Used a scotchbrite drill disk and some sandpaper.  Then followed it up with a little epoxy primer brushed on.  Here's a few pics.  Hindsight being 20-20, I should have taken a few before pics too!

Me too, Bart!  There is some pitting from the rust, but nothing all the way through.

Sean,

Looks like you are moving right along!  Keep up the progress!  Are you still at FTCKY?  If so maybe we can drive up to the NATs next summer?

Thanks Don!  I never was at Ft Campbell, my father in-law retired there and still lives there so we make our way there every once in a while.  I'm at Scott AFB just across the river from St Louis.  Regardless, metting up at the Nats or somewhere along the way sounds like a plan!!!   :2thumbs:

Cheers Mike!  Coming along pretty good!  Got a little time today to abate some more rust. I worked on the inside of both the driver’s & passenger’s fender walls (engine bay facing sides) and upper & lower radiator support. Next I’ll tackle the outer facing side of the passenger’s fender wall and then the firewall.  The lower radiator support is pretty bent up but shold be salvageable with a little finessing.
