Mysterious parts from steering column
« on: November 10, 2008 - 09:15:31 PM »
I removed the steering column today so I could refinish the shaft and install a new coupler kit.  When I turned the coulmn upside down, these 2 plastic pins, about 1/8" long, off white with the heads painted black feel out somewhere between the gap in the crush can and housing.  Has anyone seen these before or know what they are?

Kinda looks like pieces of an old horn cap gone bad and seperated from the steel ring. It may have had the horn cap replaced before because it had fell off.

essentially no , the column really cannot move up or down as long as the wheel is bolted on & the roll pin is in the coupler

:iagree: Chances are somewhere along the line the column was moved just enough to shear the pin heads off. Pull it out and look at it if you're concerned, but I don't know where you can get those pins anymore.
