Vote to add an extra moderator
« on: November 11, 2008 - 07:46:27 AM »
Since Cuda-Challenger is growing in membership size. There may be a need for another moderator to help filter out offensive posts, and help to moniter the areas that have been added to the site over the last few months.

Another moderator could actually help take some of the load off the exisitng mods to help keep the subject material in the boudary guidelines and posted in the right places.

Please cast your vote if you are for or against with adding another mod for the site. I set the vote for 5 days, and you are able to change your vote.

It's really up to Ross, it can be a lot of work, Admin is default for rejecting or accepting new members, however, he "could" if he wanted allow a Moderator to by giving their user ID permission. It's really just a matter of setting the complexity of visual verification image high and setting the required strength for user passwords at a high level. That will help but as I said in another thread these spams are getting good. Hopefully Simple Machines (this forums software designers) come out with some new patch installments in the next few months to fight against the new range of spammers. :2cents:

Hi Alan, I am all for the filters.  I have no problem with the mods we have already.  It would be up to them to let us know weather they can not handle the extra postings.  This is just my view of course, you may have a different perspective of what happens at your end though :2thumbs: good idea if they would like the help though.

Ross had suggested that I start this thread.   We may see some changes in the very near future. :2thumbs:

As members, we only read the threads we would like to read. When being a mod, it takes a while to have to read over the many posts that have been made new or exhisting.

An example could be like Chryco helping out in the tech section answering posts and not really being able to check as much in other areas while answering questions. When every mod is on and performing their tasks, the site goes pretty smooth. But with some mods gone and some that don't get to visit here often, we are thin on policing the site.

OK then, i understand better now.   Seeing as how you talked to Ross about it.  Who did you have in mind for a moderator ? You yourself perhaps.

I'd volunteer to help out as a moderator - I'm on here all the time, and have performed as a moderator before for the 2GStratus.org club.

After the vote here is done, Ross will make the decisions on whether to vote for a new mod, or he may even Pm members and ask if they would like the position. This will be up to him. The votes here help make his decision on his next steps.

There is actually some really good members here that would be able to become a moderator. We will only be getting 1 extra person. Any person that is chosen I am sure will be a benefit to our site.

Good point and it's not a personal attack some Moderators are just too busy to be on here 24/7. I'm for it, don't get me wrong, no one likes to see porn or crap like that on here.......just wasn't sure if Ross would want to change it to "approval" status as I know it takes more time to sort them out, not just that, if you're away for the day, night or longer, it means those real members waiting to get in have to wait.

If he's cool with letting others do it, by all means lets get 'er done! Plenty of good members to choose from. I applied years ago via PM to Ross and was told I'd be used when he needed one, then April got it lol. Definitely agree that we need more or shuffling of some kind. I'm on here 24/7, own the same forum software and have moderated plenty but it ain't my call. I'd do the job but am not losing sleep over it if I don't. What ever helps the board I'm all for it.

I vote for Alan to be another moderator, if he is willing, I know he is able.

He is on the board a lot, has good judgement, has already taken on his shoulders a good brunt of the responsibilities, and has the maturity to do the job.  I think it would give Alan more "clout" to deal with issues that he finds on the forum if he is given the moderator title.

Also, he is well respected by many of the members here.  :2cents:

My question is.......... when you hit the "report this thread to a moderator" button, does it go to all moderators or just Ross or what? If it goes to all moderators, then there is usually at least one on at all times and we can help them by using the report button. :2thumbs:

The new registration is a different story though. :dunno:

i prefer to be left out of decisions like this.  some things dont go as well as members like (flag debacle, which im still talking to people about) but in general the majority should rule.  if everyone wants another mod added then thats fine.  im not sure how much april is around so if there is some slack that needs to be picked up then fine.  i also dont want to choose the person to be.  we'll put it to a vote and who ever wins gets the position.

Yeah but none of our nominees have to lie out their a$$ to earn the position.  :)

Nor do we need to play race or sex cards...

I'm sure I could go on and on...  ...but I won't.  :)
