FINALLY I Found You!
« on: November 11, 2008 - 07:05:06 PM »
Hello all you tasteful people!  I'm 35 from Pa USA and with the find and purchase of a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda convertible, I am back in the game race!

My first vehicle was a '68 GMC 3/4 ton pick-up truck; which I quickly detonated.  This was my senior year in high school - 1991.  Soon there after, I was in the market for a '69 Roadrunner.  But I came across my '73 Barracuda first.  Boy am I glad for that!  There's nothing like them.  But,  it only took me a few years until I drover her into the ground too.  :working: So I picked up something that I could handle and that could handle me: an '87 Pontiac Firebird.  I drover her until I could finally afford my first new vehicle which I still drive today: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport.  :woohoo:

Sometime early 2000, I got my first computer and therefore first access to the internet.  Then came eBay and
Barrett-Jackson.  So I started watching the Plymouth convertibles sell.  It was in 2005 that we began to put money away and serious look; and this past August:  :droolingbounce:

Thank you guys.  This place is super; and it's FREE!  More funds my new topless gal

Originally a 318 with a 904 auto / now 360 727 auto and an unknown rear.  The transmission is absolutely radical as she hits hard!  Too hard for the 14" that are all around...  My local trans shop manager says it is "very impressive".  One of the next decisions that I need to make is wheels, tires and other hardware to keep it from chirping all day long.  I know "some problem to have"; hehe...  So right now I just have it tuned way down and it is shifting into second at 5mph and drive at 15ish.  The car isn't being driven so that will work until Spring...

But here is a neat little find.  When you go check out your dream car (that needs work), how many of us think to verify that the kickdown linkage is there!  That's not a question either...  Boy was that an expensive miss.  I would have still bought the car but I think that I could have gotten a credit on that...

Thankfully it is a power top that works great but will need new leather.  The interior is very nice with a cap on the dash.  I will probably replace the carpet for fun.  It is a non-rallye car with no options.

The body is straight overall.  It has a good frame with no rusting out and one fist size hole behind the drives seat.  Both quarters had been replaced but the body work will need to be touched up.  The trunk floor is a mess but nothing has rusted through.  I give it a 7 out of 10.

Needs all new exhaust, leaf springs, shocks, wheels, tires and bumpers.  I've dumped about 2K already and am about done for the winter.  I will spend the cold season trying to save for body and paint before all these other parts.
We'll see...

:cooldancing:  Welcome to the Mopar family.  Very nice story along with a very nice '70 Barracuda.  What are your plans for the body color?  Seeing that you are from PA, maybe you'll make it to Carlisle next summer and meet up with some of the members here.  We're glad you found us!

Nice to have another convertible in on board.  After all the hooopla with ebodies over the past few years, I am still surprised at how many unrestored cars continue to pop up.  We will be tracking the progress of this beauty with great interest.  Welcome to the site.
