Engine bling
« on: November 12, 2008 - 10:24:41 AM »
Getting tired of the looks of my motor...trying to get some ideas on how to liven it up a little.  Thinking more chrome...anyone have any good ideas?  Show your well dressed motors.

I used to have a setup like that and just decided to go back to more of a factory look and am pretty happy there. If you want to go more flashy a pulley/bracket/serpentine swap will jazz up the front (but $$$). I'd probably paint the intake orange so it will highlight the valve covers and the rest. Maybe some fancy chrome tube radiator hose like the mustang boys usually do. I relocated a bunch of stuff out of my engine bay, but have the holes to show for it until I can get to redoing the engine bay metal/paint. Such as the ignition ecu, voltage regulator, wiring and such is hidden as well.

Just some thoughts.

Was thinking about chrome air cleaner and valve covers.  The aluminum ones are gettign "cloudy" looking and always need polishing.  Also a polished or powder coated intake would look good.  The rough finish always holds dirt.  Would like to relocate the electricals for the clean look look like this Cuda

I switched to the chrome valve covers for that exact reason.  Also had the tunnel ram coated and really polishes up because it's not pourus. (sp)

See I'm a fan of tying the engine to the car - things like body color accents on the Valve Covers, or brackets, even wire loom to match or contrast appropriately.

Sorry - this is the quickest image I could find on a google search.  PLEASE don't flame me for this one.  :)

Thanks for that pic. Thats the 'smooth' look I will be going for when I do my engine bay. I have done all the electrical part of it, it needs things smoothed back out now.

What color did you use to coat it?  Looks great!

Dan,

Those polished aluminum valve covers lasted one year in my engine bay. Well...actually two, but that second year I wouldn't open my hood.     They were a P.I.T.A. to keep clean.   :22yikes: Chrome is much kinder. I had my intake powder-coated, but it's been less than a year, ao I can't speak of how it will look long term. So far, so good.
