    They do deserve what is happening...for years of products that have been behind the competition...fuel economy...technology too bad no one cared until it gets to this stage...

    But I am in support...I do believe that the big three need Federal help

    Imagine if the North American manufacturers go under...then there will be nothing to stop the import companies from charging whatever they want to for their "more reliable" cars...there will be nothing to compare to...quality control...well there won't be any quality control The ripple effect would be huge...and then more importantly there are all the job losses...the people...the economy

    If sales were allowed in fully in Japan bet that would get all the companies out of trouble...in May Ford imported 2,500 of its new Mustangs they sold out in two months. No longer should they be marketed as a novelty but marketed as a real live drivable car!!

    Definitely the UAW needs an overhaul...it's not working...management needs to make some changes...maybe the government needs to step in to point them in a new direction

    It's not like ALL domestic vehicles are garbage...you don't hear the people ragging on about Corvettes or Vipers

    I don't think the current system is working though...maybe a merge is needed of the 3  :dunno:

    No problem hannah,

    I think the big 3 were all starting to come around but GM was behind in to heavily relying on large SUV sales to react quick enough to the fuel hikes and troubled economy.
    There are some great products in development ready to come out within the next year at Chrysler. Just hope thye get a proper chance.

    The UAW needs to release its strangle hold of the automakers so they can be a little more profitable and the upper management needs to overhaul the outlandish bonuses and golden parachutes.


    Even though I am not American I will never own a new vehicle that was not produced in North America by a North American company.
    As patriotic as the US is I just don't understand why they don't see the problem.

    Well I might have supported them and actually bought a new car once but the stupid games & 20K over MSRP has always turned me off of buying anything new , I would rather deal with the used car market & fix the problems with the vehicles than ever walk into a showroom & make a deal , not to mention the Cummins & Chall are the only vehicles they have built since 1970 I would consider buying as "there is no market for 2 dr vehicle " weird every Cavalier / Sunfire I see is driven by a blond teenager at 100k over the speed limit & are All 2 drs
     Let them die ... government would seriously have to rethink changing the rules for building cars as no start up company could afford all the crash tests etc or we can just send all the $$ out of the country instead of just most the $$ now

    I'll come down to convincing the Republicans who have absolutely nothing to gain from rewarding their failure, and certainly not the UAW vote. Their votes got Obama elected. In fact the haste to do something before January is so the blame can conveniently be assigned to Bush when it doesn't help and they're all back again with their hands out in a year. The only Rebublican encumbents who got re-elected this year are the ones who voted against the giant bailout, so good luck with that. I think they will go bankrupt and restructure the same way the airline industry did. Of course if Obama chooses to ram through some aid and wants to put his name on it against the wishes of the minority that's his perogative, and he's welcome to it. That's a "judgment" call. Likewise with again placing domestic oil off limits. We'll see how that plays out in 2 years in the next senate election when gas is $7 a gallon and the car companies are all still losing money.  :2thumbs:

     :clueless:  With global markets competing, its a no brainer to see why the BIG 3 are failing.  The standard of living in Mexico or Korea is not the same as it is in the US, therefore their wages reflect the lower overhead that needs to be paid out per worker. 

     :stirpot:  Thanks to NAFTA and Detroit's lack of regard to exceptional fuel economy, car buyers looked to Toyota and Honda to get the MPG's they offered instead.  And at the same time, US manufactureres sent jobs overseas for cheap labor.  Unemployed people can not buy cars, much less else.


     :2thumbs:  Public support for Chrysler, GM and Ford???...hell ya.


     :money:  Bail everyone out....we're ALL going to pay for it whether we like it or not.   


     :2cents:    Well, thats my 2¢ even though no one asked.  It's a lost battle already.

    The cost of biudling UAW cars in the US is too much.The only manufacturers making money biulding cars here are non-union plants like Toyota.Remember when you could buy a tv made in America?How about now?Very few electronics are made here as it`s much cheaper labor/overhead overseas.I have never and probably never will buy a car not made by a US manufacturer except when the Germans owned Chrysler.  ::)

    The best way for the big 3 to get profitable again is to declare bankruptcy and reorganize. The unfortunate part will be all the benefits that retirees will lose. Break up the unions and they will be making money quick. It costs the big 3 $1,000 more per car to produce because of the UAW.

    It's kind of a no brainer that any profitable company can sustain the Legacy costs of the US Auto Industry with more people not working than working making 95% of their working wage. Hate to throw all those people under the bus, but I don't think the taxpayers should have to pay them for sitting at home. They wouldn't want to pay us either. Time to get off the gravy train. It's not like they were lifers in the Military.  :grinno:

    Don't you think its the banks that are kinda messing around here and not the car companies?

    It's the same if you or I lost our job...we would start selling off our cars and worldly possessions to make the bills...eventually those possessions would run out and we are just broke...nothing more to sell

    It's just been announced that Suzuki bought back the 3% share for $230M...so the companies are doing something to lighten the bills and debts. All 3 have been selling off brands and shares...they've trimmed back union costs...they don't have anything more to sell off either

    Meanwhile the banks sit back and do nothing...our tax money will bail them out...then we borrow our tax money and added bonus we get to pay interest on our money

    The bailout comes with rules...they won't get the money so they can lose it again

    Here is a little ditty on YouTube...it was released yesterday...showing the lesser evil being a bailout...the arguments on all sides...if one collapses they all do



    Interesting to watch this all unfold...

    The one I'm finding hardest to support is Chrysler, unfortunately.  Bob Nardelli, the current CEO, did such a bang-up job running Home Depot into the ground before his multi-million $$$ parachute opened, it's tough for me to feel any sympathy for any of them.

    I wasn't for the bank bailout either. It's not like they don't own all the properties they hold the mortgages to, or that we can't do without some banks.  So they have to eat a bit of a loss to sell the properties off, maybe 50-100K each cause they were overvalued. No my problem mamz. And maybe nobody wants to pay 50K for a gas sucking Hummer anymore. No my problem either manz. I'm not the suit getting the big bucks to design vehicles nobody wants or deciding what real estate investments are good or bad. I've made plenty of bad decisions on my own, but never got rewarded for them by the government. They should cut that 800 billion up into equal parts and just send it to the American taxpayers if they really want to fix the economy. It's in the toilet because we the people aren't spending money. Give us some $$$ and we'll spend it.  :bigsmile:
