sorry, the era of the early 20th century are long DEAD! a company is in business to make money, simple. when the workers won't let it, let it die then. a slow death is better than no death! no pity on the industry here. I work far tooooo long and hard to put food on my table, the kids through school and keep a roof over everyone's head to put up with the blsht of the north american auto industry.
LET THEM ALL DIE!

ps. someone with brains will buy it up and actually turn a profit after the leeching is gone.

i never ever feel sorry for over paid union workers. when all these auto workers loose there jobs reality will hit them hard on how difficult it is to find a job and make the money they once did.

For everyone that says let them die I think you need to re-think things. Where are your parts for your current rides going to come from? The aftermarket does not produce parts for current vehicles nor do they produce everything a vehicle needs, How about collision parts?

Agreed. I'm willing to put up with some harsh economic times if the UAW can be permanently broken. Won't happen with the incoming administration, though.

 To a Point I agree the auto industry is Huge & the trickle down effect would be massive as well , for every UAW worker there are probable what 10 non UAW workers in Auto industries in local dealers & aftermarket parts etc , however Cummins is still in business , I buy virtually nothing from the dealer anymore after my experience with the crate engine I bought & GFY for warranty , now items like steel shim 440 head gaskets that  I bought for $30 a pair are now over $200 / pair , $30 was too cheap / great bargain but I will buy Cometics @ $200 before I pay 200 for the factory ones , 2 years ago I was typically buying close to 10 K / year for customers car from Mopar , this year I doubt I will have spent $800 . The Auto industry in NA is massive & losing it would distroy a Huge % of industry left in NA .
 WE have a few problems to beat one most people do not feel the new cars m eet there expectations so the industry is out of touch , second , most people now believe foreign cars are better built & have better reliability which I do not feel is true but that is the general perception now , I know a lot of younger people who would never consider anyhting but a forgien car this perception has to be reversed somehow , some very cool concepts have never been built while Butt ugly Nitros/ Calibers, K cars , Last gen Dakotas, New Rams  do get built  This has to change too
 I am as loyal Mopar guy as you can find , I have owned over 70 vehicles 5 were not Mopar , 3 were bought Before I was sold on Mopar & 2 were bought for a specific purpose where Mopar didn`t offer what I needed , 3 of the 5 turned out to be total lemons that I regret buying meanwhile 3 mopars were just as bad  & I also regretted buying no one is perfect
 Bottom line is if all 3 auto mfg fail we will still need cars & most our $$ will go outside NA , this will Not be better for us so do I want to see them Fail now but they do need to change & fast & not be rewarded for bad management

All top employees should be gone...union gone...let go the designers/engineers...and start building BETTER cars

I think it's safe to say that most people over-estimate big business's ability to change.

Mulally is symptomatic of the problem.  The Big Three would not be in this position if they were actually building cars that people want.  You don't lose money when demand for your product is growing.  You don't lose money when you're positioned with the right product at the right time and the right price.

You lose money when you build an inferior product that is over-priced.  I'm not sure why we think the Gov't can fix this, but if they're going to intervene, they need to dump the UAW, prune more brands (Buick, GMC, Pontiac, Mercury) and consolidate.

Unfortunately, NO ONE that has the ability to do this will have the guts to do this.
