My first thought was they didn't do as good a job of emulating the longer lines of the 60's models as with the current model, so it looks fat from the side, but I'll reserve judgement until I see the actual thing in person. Same thing with the front end - if you look at it from the profile shots, it's not so protruding as it looks in the 3/4 shots. Sometimes the lines don't translate well to the two dimensional aspects of a photo.
When the first Audi 5000's came out in 1984 (?),
Car & Driver was waxing poetic about how beautiful it was. I wrote a letter (which they published) about how ugly it was, based solely on their photographs. After the letter came out in print, I actually saw one and realized that what looked fat and bulbous in pictures was actually pretty sleek. It looks dated now, but in 1984, it was pretty cutting edge and presaged by one year the first-gen Ford Taurus.
