Complete overhead console?
« on: November 18, 2008 - 02:01:04 PM »
Is this a complete overhead console, or do I need to find more parts for it?

Looks like it is missing the wiring harness and felt covering material.

It looks a bit rough, could certanly use some tlc, but I guess consoles in good condition are rare to find, or what? :dunno:

You need the plate that attaches to the roof too.

You need the big Backer-board, too. I saw a wacky repro somewhere on this board.

Here are a couple of reference pics I have. Thing is that I also have an overhead console with six rather than four "seats" for the clips to slide into. Maybe it came from a c-body originally :dunno: The clips themselves appear to be very similar to e-body door panel clips

I added an overhead console to my vinyl headliner car. It wasnt too bad actually. I did have to engineer a way to support the front of it and ended up getting a second domelight support from a donor car to provide the forward attachment for it. Theres a thread around here somewhere outlining the process.   :clueless:

Did you want it to be functional? If so you have a few things yet to collect. You will need the main O/H console harness and the low fuel relay. You will need to add two additional door switches and they will plug into the harness.

It's a bit of an undertaking but the biggest challenge for you will be finding all the parts. It is a cool feature though   :2thumbs:

Those aren't for clips, but rather studs/nuts. That's how the insert attaches to the backer board. I would think that clips would damage the backer on thier way in. My spares are literally nailed to the garage wall, so I can't get any pics, sorry.

Someone may have changed them out. Mine had the threaded studs also.

I think it was your thread that initially gave me the idea to go for a Overhed Console in the first place.

I already scored a low fuel relay and main harness with bulbs! The rest seems to be available from Year One.

So, did original S.E.'s have a forward support? It's been MANY years since I've owned one, so the memory glands are failing.

Thanks!
