How to make an AAR Clone?
« on: November 18, 2008 - 09:59:34 PM »
I'm working on making an AAR clone out of a '72 Cuda.  The interior will have to get new seat covers, dash pad, interior door panels, etc... so I'll replace those parts with the 1970 peices.  What I know I'll have to change:

grille & supports
side markers
tail lights
hood
steering box

What else will I have to change out to make it look like an AAR?  All informaion is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!
Sean

Side exit exhaust, aar stripes, radio antenna mounted on the rear quarter panel instead of the fender.

Forgot abput the side exit exhaust, one of the many of my attractions to the AAR.  That will require a rear vallance panel without holes.

Much appreciated!

You will actually need a 70 header panel as well to hold the 70 grille in place.

What color combo are you thinking of doing ?

1971 Barracuda   (O O {]{]{]|[}[}[} O O)

Good info to know, Ken!

I'm kinda torn on exterior color.  I'm thinking J5 Lime Light, K2 Vitamin C, or V2 Tor Red with a two tone (black & white) interior.

You will have to get a T/A motor.  Or build a 340 to spec's.

Build a 340 to spec, a TA motor will cost you more than 10k and it won't give you any bonus.

Thanks for the input!!!  My plan is to do a bored and stroked 360.  That is going to be about the only thing that is true to AAR form.  I want a little more umph out of her.

Hey Sean,

Maybe something different perhaps ? EW1 White with Red interior :grinyes: or even rarer color combo would be a BL1 Biege with Red interior   Totally up to you though, good luck in your decision. :2thumbs:

Not trying to twist your arm buddy, but here is a T/A in Beige, real hard to find a good picture of a Beige AAR :dunno: sorry.  But i would still have a Red interior with Beige also. imagine this as an AAR :stirpot:

I like white with blue interior. I think there were only a couple of them made.

That red interior is awesome!!

72Hemi,  Do you have any pics of a white with blue guts?

I kind of like the beige outside.  Looks very different.

No twisting taken, Ken!  Lots of cool color combos out there!!!  That beige and tan has a certain charm to it.  I wonder if that color combo is not often seen because it was in low production (the high impact and other eye catching colors being more popular in 1970) or people just want the other colors now?

72hemi:  The white and blue is the color combo of one of the diecast cars I have in my collection.

I don't have any pictures of the white with blue interior. I think I saw one (T/A) at Barrett Jackson in the last couple of years. I think only 3 T/A's were built in that combo, no idea for AAR numbers.
