Hey Stinger, I never said I charge $100 an hour, that is what shops around here charge. I said I charge around $50 and I had to drop it to 35-40 due to the economy. If you're going to put in your  :2cents:, keep up with the topic. Enough on this already. I'm going back to the shop because :drama: And it seems like I am  :horse:

if you wanna paint something, try painting a mural on the wall in your shop. Unless, of course it's not your shop.
I have nothing. go ahead and laugh. but when I get my something, prepare to be awed

JEFF!  I thought you had decided against the re-paint.  If there can be such thing as a belly-button Viper, it'd be a blue one with white stripes.  My  :2cents: (again)

What the heck is a belly-button Viper???

Blue and White Vipers are still going for higher dollars than most, and they're at least 5 years older than the cars I was looking for.  I've mentioned that every Viper owner says that their color Viper is the "most desireable."  Well the blue and whites ACTUALLY ARE.  That's what drew me to the GTS many, many years ago.  Ask MEK about the "Viper blue" Cuda I picked out at Carlisle without even hesitation.  I absolutely ADORE that color.

I haven't decided for or against anything yet.  Hell at this point I haven't even decided that I'm KEEPING it!!  It's complete lack of practicality and "general usefullness" has hit me like a ton of bricks.  :)

INTERESTING THREAD!
I have just decided to take on a project or two for others in my spare time. I'm getting to the point that I have to wait for a few things to finish my Challenger - and this is just a hobby - but I have the experience and the skill, so I thought I'd help someone else out and make a few bucks on the side. I would charge $50 an hour (in Canada), as shop rates here are $80.00 - 100.00, incl. materials. But then I can do most all of it - rust repair, body, prep, paint, polish, rsome interior, re&resto mechanical, etc. I'd like to take a car from disassembly through paint and then let the owner put it back togther. I think there would be people who would love that much involvlement.

Stinger, are you mainly collision or rest work? The snow and ice will be here shortly and that  obviuosly was always our busy season for collision. If you do resto work do you get the word out to your local car clubs and online forums?I know Moparts has a business section for posting services. You`ve probably already thought of these ideas but just trying to help ya bud.  :2thumbs:

I know this is a little late, but I haven't been on here for awhile.  I work at a body shop here in Kokomo, IN and I know how you feel.  I'm just the "helper", but I've saw my hours cut by over half the last two weeks.  We get paid hourly and last week I only worked two days.  I can't really make it on $134 a week.  Trying to find a job here, but there are none, not even WalMart would hire me for a seasonal position. :bricks1:

So, I never got a ball-park price on the repaint.  :)  It's one thing to cry about not having any work, but someone asks for a quote and you don't provide it?  Doesn't help business much.  :)

I'm just pokin' fun, really - I'm not getting it repainted NOW.  But I've been getting real dissapointed lately when I contact companies to get a price on something and they don't even respond.  I'd think people would be jumping all over potential business right now.

if you were serious you would take it to a shop to get an estimate.trying to get one on line or over the phone is a bad way to do buisness.on average though it would be 4-6 hours per panel @38.00 an hour and 19.00 an hour for materials + tax. so look in a ballpark of 4 grand.

Now was that so hard?

Haha - Nah again I'm just joking.  You're absolutely right - and when I finally am serious, that's exactly what I'll be doing - going to numerous shops and gathering information just like I did when I actually bought the car.

Unfortunately today there's a lot of tire kicking - and in many ways it's been ingrained into our brains.  Everyone advertises "free quote!"  We're encouraged via web, phone - anything they can do to earn business without making us fat, lazy Americans get our butts off the couch.  The one commercial (for some drug of some kind) said "Just call now and say, 'hey - send me that information!'  You don't even have to say 'hey!'  Just say, 'send me the information'!"  We're even encouraged to be rude about it!  Always thought that commercial was dumb...

But you said you were bored - that's the only reason I asked.  :)  When I was bored at work I'd always create the most elaborate quotes...  When I was busy, I'd toss a number out and hope it stuck.  :)
