Less than 68 days to go and counting down Till I get to go home
« on: November 20, 2008 - 01:11:10 PM »
Hey guys just to let you know that I have less than 90 days to go and I am counting the days down.  I am going to be searching for a job when I get back and searching for parts for my car.  I cant wait to get home and get started on my Barracuda.

Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

How was it?

Does this mean the job is over, or you don't want to go back?

I could stay longer if I want to.  They offered me another year.  The money is good but I miss being in the states so much.  Got a divorce from the wife because we were not meant to be together too many differences.  I do have a new girlfriend and I am ready to go back home to her for sure.  So a lot has happened in the year over here.  Just want to restore my car.  I am starting to gather parts for it and want to get all of the sheet metal for it and get started on getting it new again.  Take care.  Gordon

Thats a hard decision. I can't think of a job that is more honorable. But it must be hard being so far from home.

Gordon, have you searched here for a job?  this place always has 100 or more around the area you choose to live. When you register, it asks if you are associated with the military.

Working away from home is hard on new relationships. Also, I wouldn't stay out of the USA just because of a job. Jobs are here. You have as long as you need to fix your car.

Look at this link.  Huntsville also has many jobs in this site for NASA, decatur, Cullman, Birmingham

I will check out the site and thanks Alan for the info.  Trying to get my log in and password.  Tryed to e-mail them but it was returned.  I will still consider coming home but would be able to come home every 4 months if I do come back.  And the money is good.  Just hard to stay for 6 months or longer without going home.  I have talked to my new girlfriend extensively about this and she says it would be best to stay overhere for the extra year.  I will still lookinto other options.  I do want to be able to restore my car and get the new Challenger also.  Gordon

Good call on the website Alan :)  I returned home friday afternoon from helping replace pcs at the Birmingham UC Call Center to help the staff process things quicker as they were using pcs with Windows 2K (128mb of memory) :eek4: - i'm going back monday to continue helping until they are all replaced with new HP dual core processor pcs :2thumbs:

Gordon, I can't help you directly but the Birmingham Career Center (as well as most of the state Career Centers) staffs reps who are there specifically for Military Veterans. Whomever you interview with to get yourself in the system, make sure to mention my name, Russell Meyers, and that I work for Industrial Relations in the Information Systems Unit. All of the Industrial Relations personnel know me and it can only help you in your process :2thumbs: Btw the Cullman Career Cener is now located on the campus of Wallace State Community College in Hanceville (take I65 exit 291, turn right towards Hanceville, then turn left on hwy 31. The campus will be maybe a mile up 31 on your left) due to fire damage at the Career Center building in Cullman several months ago. Good luck, sir.
