I have seen a lot of this , the windings on the contact strip must noe be properly spaced causing uneven readings as the float drops

              Hmmm...........cheap repro parts,at an expensive price ?

Luckily, my 2nd repro unit finally worked.

yes, the repro is total crap!

I suggest getting an nos one; even if it's the 5/16" line.  If you have more than 450hp, then get a 3/8" or 1/2" line.  Or, modify the NOS one w/a bigger line.

I bet the float can be bent just enough to stick on the tube and then it lets loose.... My current aftermarket 3/8 sending unit reads perfect but the float was getting stuck and it drove me nuts till i figured it out........

I'll have to see. Im about ready to rip it apart and stick the mechanism from my 67 Coronet sender onto the tube of my Challenger one....  wait a minute, I wonder if I can bend the tubing on the 67 unit to the shape of the tubing on the Challenger one.... oh I will definitely be experimenting.....

wally, what repro unit did you buy and from where?  I have to change mine ths winter and someone told me you can get a repro at Advance auto parts.  Should I start looking for a nos instead?

 Bought a 3/8" unit from Adeals Automotive over a year ago. After some initial tweaking for proper level its since been right on. Also installed a new stainless fuel line and checked for good ground.

Stick an ohm meter on the sender.

With the float in the 'empty' position you should get a reading of 73 ohms (+/- 12 ohms).

In the full position the reading should be 9.6ohms (+/- 1 ohm).

I sent mine off to be calibrated with my gauge during the resto that Instrument Specialties is doing.

  Hi guys,  I have just fitted a NOS sender to my cuda.  I got it from Brads nos parts for $99 plus post.  I must say though, it does not look like a "new old stock" part

            because its not the same as the original one i have removed. Also,on the mopar box it came in it says "made in mexico" 

          It has got a pentastar stamped on it though.    My old sending unit has a metal float which has split with age and was half full with fuel,no wonder it was not accurate!

          The new one has a white plastic float.     Fitting it wasnt so easy.........had to remove the rear valance panel,the drivers side exhaust as its all welded in one section,

         and also had to remove the resonator shield to get the sender out.     Dont know if it works yet,as the weather turned bad so had to finish up.

alll new sneders us the plastic float instead of the older Brass ones I guess time will tell if they hold up better , I doubt they will

I remember reading a few years ago that there was a Ford sender float in brass that was compatible with the Mopar units.  I doubt I can find the magazine that was in, sorry.

Mine is funky too. I haven't pulled it out yet but if it is just the float can't I just drain it and re-solder it?
