« on: November 23, 2008 - 10:53:07 PM »
Im going to look at a guys 73 challenger tomorrow and was wanting to know what you guys think.  I know what to look for as rust goes but he's asking 5000.00 obo.  Is this a good ball park range for 73's?  I know it verys on what the car looks like but just asking because of the way the market is.   Heres what the guys says about the car and a few pictures I have:    1973 Dodge Challenger for sale. Comes with a 400 big block engine and 727 torqueflight auto transmission. Originally equipped with a 340 engine and 4 speed transmission. 4 speed transmission and an additional rebuilt 400 big block engine go with car. Solid body with Rallye hood and dash. Needs driver's side floor pan replaced. Small amount of rust on bottom of driver's door. Some bondo in passenger side rear quarter panel. Needs total restoration. $5000 or best offer.

Well I didnt get to go and look at the car becasue of the rain the other night.  I did talk to the guy for some time and said his wife wants him to sale the car so they can have a little money. I asked him more about the car and he said every thing to the car is there and the only pan's that need replacing are the front driver side floor.  He said the trunk and rear frame rails are good. That the right rear qt was hit and filled in.  Said that its not tubed but does have traction bars on it.  That it was a factory 340/4 speed car and still has the pedals in the car and will come with the factory 4 speed.  So we set up a time for next Tuesday, so Ill let you guys know.  If you guys have any input please help me out. Ive got a 70 340 cuda and would love to have a 340 challenger to go with it, but do you guys think 5000.00 is to hight to start with.  O and he did say that it would need a new wiring harness.

If it is solid I think its probably every bit worth it but if you have cash I would start somewhere like 3500. It is enough that the guy knows your probably serious about wanting it. It is a buyers market right now too.

:iagree: Looks like a solid project and you can't go wrong with a factory 340 4 speed car.

Look up what a Rallye dash ALONE sells for.

I agree with all of the above - 5,000 sounds good, but it is a buyers market, try to beat him up a little bit on things you can see that will need to be replaced or re-chromed.

I am re-storing a Cuda right now and as the painter put it, the car is worth more than most stocks right now - theses cars are a pretty safe bet.
It helps that Ma Mopar decided to bring back the Chally too.

Looks like a great project Challenger and the fact that it was a rallye and a 340 4-speed is a big plus. I'm still looking for another project and this car is even in my price range. Good luck buying the Challenger for less than the asking price.

I think he will too.  He said they have had a hard time selling there house so they could use the money, pluse he said the car now sits outside with a cover over it since he dont have a garage to put it in.  Unless the are is just really bad shape then Ill really low ball him but if its like he says I too think its worth it.  I would put the 4 speed back in the car and put the 727 and other 400 in my 70 duster.  So its not like I couldnt use the other parts for something you know.  If it works out for me in the next few days Ill post up some pictures of the car, may not be untill next wedsday or so.

$5K for a four-speed car? If you don't buy it, I'll take the phone number and give you a $$ birddog.

Yes, it's a buyer's market, but 340-4-speed cars do not come along every day.

2 shiny pennies from me.
