70 cuda Steering wheels
« on: November 24, 2008 - 02:52:25 PM »
What steering wheel options do I have? I have a AAR factory steering wheel BENCH seat. Being 6' 270pds I'm a big guy with seat all the way back leg room is ok BUT getting in & out of car is a pain & I'm afraid I'm going to crack my factory wheel.   Is there a smaller diameter wheel I can use?

I would get a reproduction Tuff Wheel sold by Grant, and replace the "crush can" with a shorter one from a b body that will move the steering wheel closer to the dash.  I am a pretty 'big fella', and it makes a world of difference for me. :2cents:

:iagree: That is exactly what I did, except that I used the Grant wheel below. It's a little smaller diameter than the Grant repro Tuff Wheel. You will have to drill the holes to mount that one on the Mopar can (easy to do) as opposed to the repro Tuff Wheel, but it is also about $65 cheaper than the Tuff Wheel too!

I've got a 71 rimblow. Would that b body crush can fit? I would love to push the wheel back an inch or two.
Thanks.

yes the a/b body tuff/rimblow wheel adapters will fit on the cudas and challengers and will move it back for you.

I measured my crush can at just about 5" deep, and I think it is stock. With the rimblow wheel I have 4" knuckle clearance between the wheel and the dash pad, so there isnt a lot of room. Shortening by 2" would be the max for my application, and the black one I saw says its about 2.5", and the red one looks more like about 4" deep. One might be too much and the other too little. I'll just pick one and hope it works well.
Thanks.

a buddy of mine (70 challenger convertible)had the e body(accordion style)adapter cut and took out three or four inches and had it welded back together, works for him and looks fine, you have to be looking close to tell the difference. like you stated though, those rimblows are a larger diameter than the smaller tuff wheel, thus you hands may come in contact with the dash,i prefer the tuff wheels with the e body accordion adapter.im 6 foot 1 and i have no problems at all.
