70 SE Vinyl Top Trim Question
« on: November 24, 2008 - 03:13:08 PM »
Can somebody tell me if the 1970 Challenger SE vinyl trim piece below the rear window is one piece or two? About how wide?

I saw a 2 piece one for sale and the seller claimed it was for a 70 SE. Mine is one long piece that goes from one quater window to the other, and I have no idea if its correct or not.

Thanks, Mike

It definetly should be two piece. it's wider than  standard trim and takes clips that aren't easy to find as well.

They are two piece and they are 3/4 of an inch wide, the standard stuff is also two piece and is 1/2 of an inch wide.

I would like to see the picture of the single piece you have please, if you could lay it on your rear dutchman panel and take a picture please.  Kenny. :2thumbs:

Thanks for helping me out on this. Kenny, below is a pic of the trim on my car, it seems to be about 1/2" wide and is one long piece. The plastic retaining clips are yellowed and look very old. Could this be from another year?

It is really hard to see from that angle.

If it were joined it would be dead smack in the middle of the dutchman panel.

Can you get a closer picture of the middle ? Please.

I can, but its the same the whole lenght. I had it off when the car was painted and I tried to polish the aluminum as best I could. It is one long piece of aluminum which made it very tough to polish with a buffing wheel. Still want a pic of the middle?

Aluminum.  I was sure it is meant to be Stainless that part. :clueless:  I have never seen a one piece trim like you have.  Are you sure someone has not welded it together and done a real nice job of it ?

Kenny, This is a closeup on the middle part of the trim. I am 99% sure its one piece of trim. When I had it off it was identical from one end to the other. Thanks for all your help.

Not sure what you have there but it's not original, the original was stainless and two piece held on with steel clips.

Your trim doesn't look bad, SE trim isn't easy to find so somebody probably substituted what you've got at some time. I've seen it on ebay a few times, you don't see it very often but it's not that expensive when you do.

Thanks for the photos, man that is one nice yellow RT SE.  :2thumbs:

Looks like maybe somebody stuck this on the car at some point in its life.

Mine is two piece.  The one on the right (looking from the rear) has a flared end that slips over the end of the left piece.

Although it's been a while, Rev-It-Up and Redline were able to obtain the clips from R/T Specialties

Here's a pic that shows the differences between the S/E and non - S/E vinyl top trim. Please remind me who originally posted it

The trim is definitely supposed to be stainless steel. I agree with Ken, it fits and looks good so leave it be. Might keep an eye out for a set and just use what you have until a great deal falls in your lap. I think the SE trim will be quite a bit harder to locate compared to standard trim.
