A/C question
« on: November 24, 2008 - 04:23:32 PM »
Would someone here be able to tell me if the A/C parts (compressor, condenser, valves, lines and brackets)on a 70 Plymouth fury with 318 are the same as E bodies? If so what's the difference with a big block E body?? Thanks Rob

to my knowledge they would be nowhere close to fitting , the 70 Fury is a C body using a totally different body mount system & engine compartment shape some fo the components would obviously work some of the hoses May be fitted to the E body , condenser could probably used by making some custom mounting tabs

The individual components would probably be the same but stuff like the hoses and condensor would most likely be different.

would someone here be able to clear up 2 more Questions on E Body A/C
1: Did any E Bodies with the 22" rad come with factor A/C?
2: Almost sure that they did not but would a factory size A/C condenser fit the E Body with the 22" rad??

Thanks for your time and Comments!! Rob

to my knowledge no but I am not an expert , I believe that when you order A/C you got the HD cooling / 26 " rad , there is no reason why the condenser will not fit in front of the 22" rad the opening is the same size

I have never had good luck with compressors that have sat idle for years. The head gaskets usually leak. While you have it off you might want to get some new gaskets on it. You get the bonus of checking out the reeds and such while you are in there.

Small block and big block compressor brackets are different.

Hey, a buddy of mine has a 72 or 73 340 rallye Challenger that had air conditioning added from the dealership. I know somd things are different compared to a factory air car like the holes for the lines and stuff like that. I can try to snap a few pics for you and post them if you want me to. The only monkey in the wrench might be that he is getting the roof replaced. Earlier this year I cut a roof off of one of my parts cars for him because his car was parked under a window unit refrigerated air system and it totally rotted the roof out. Let me know if you want some under hood and cabin pics. I know the system has been taken out to some degree but the holes in the firewall and I think the underdash unit are still in place.

High pressure side (small diameter) has somewhere around 220-250 psi. if I remember right. I know anything ove 300 is too much. Been a while since I charged a system so I am sure I am not spot on but you get the idea.
