Gas nozzel funnel

Has anyone tried using a funnel to allow the new gas nozzles to work in the 70-74  Barracuda? I use the radiator type Prestone sells. Otherwise you have to pry back the seal because the nozzle is too short for the bend.

Aracer, are you located outside the U.S.? I'm just wondering what the probelm is, as the unleaded nozzles fit loosely in my car.

In CA. they put a new smog nozzle that is only 4" straight and won't follow the bend in the fill tube down. It stands off, so the seal is 2" away. You'll see it soon enough in your area too. The license plate is also in the way, but it (Barracuda) always took a fill up until this past year. The funnel presses the seal back in order to start pumping. Good luck, when you don't want gas all over your hands

  One thing I found when pumping gas into my cars when in California I had to stick my finger under the rubber shroud because the fuel flow was always cutting out and wouldn't fill properly.        This released the pressure so the fuel kept pumping, I know that the shroud was supposed to extract the vapour back through the pumping system and not  into the atmosphere. I never over filled the cars but sometimes the guage only read 3/4 when it wouldn't pump any more and as I was travelling long distances I needed max fuel fill.   
  Most other states I have been in don't have the shroud but I'm sure other states will eventually get them.

Sorry, about the delay. I haven't refueled the Barr. so I don't have a shot of the mismatch. The new nozzle has the rubber seal too close to the straight stem for it to fit the turn down of the fill tube.

I had problems with that type in my Barracuda. Only one statioin in town had that style, so I just avoided it..

The're everywhere. So I tried the stubby funnel last time and it helped force the seal back.

May try and modify the plate flip, to 'flip' a little more. If I remember right, that was the hold up on my car, was I couldn't get the plate high enough.

I remember because of the L. plate it had to be turned to the side too. But the funnel works good enough.

I don't know how many of you recall, but there was a time back during either the eighties or nineties then there was a cone on the nozzle. It was an earlier generation of the vapor recovery type gas handles.

You had to force the nozzle in until the cone caught on the inside of the end of the gas filler tube to create a seal so the vapors wouldn't escape. It was a real PITA with the Cuda's to get it in because of the license plate in the way.

One day I wrestled mine in a little too hard trying to get it to seal so it would stop clicking off and broke the whole end off right inside the gas tank.

I left it in till I took the car apart. The owner was pissed that day.

I never had a poblem either, but bet I would with that California nozzle.

On  more than one occasion I have gotten the fuel pump nozzle stuck in the filler tube of one of my cuda's and had a heck of a time getting it back out. Stupid vapor recovery system.
