Orinal Louvers or reproduction louvers??
« on: November 26, 2008 - 07:27:41 PM »
I have a chance to purchase these.  He says they are aluminum and have no cracks.  I can get them with no mounting hardware, hindges, screws, etc.

he took them off of his 70 cuda he says.  Is there a difference between challenger and cuda?

I can't tell if they are original or reproduction as I have never played with a set.  This is the only picture he has sent me, hope it is enough.  :clueless:

Ok, that didn't work.  It isn't bigger it is actually smaller.  Weird.  I will just go with that then.

Hey Josh,

I have the same set and they are plastic and fit inside the window trim area.

If they were original they would at least have holes where the hinges were. They were hinged at the top and were attached to nutserts like the side mirrors. Since the backlights for both cars were different I would think the louvers would be too. I am like you though and have never really looked close at an original set, I have just seen pics.

Originals were aluminum.

The Cuda ones are different than Challenger ones too. The easist way to ID them at a glance is the bottom corners. They are rounded on a Cuda while the Challenger ones come to a point.

Hey Josh,

I actually like the look of the plastic ones as a personal thing.  And they do not involve any holes in the body to mount ones i got.

They are definitely after-market Cuda louvers.

I wasn't a big fan of the plastic I had on my Challenger for a year or so. That just didn't look 1970's to me. I did finally find after-market aluminum louvers for mine.

I am with you on this one Mike. I love the look of the originals but the aftermarket ones dont do anything for me at all. Kinda like fiberglass bumpers, they do the job standing in for rubber bumpers but you can spot them a mile away.

I am putting textured rear window trim which is Black and has the same grain pattern of the plastic rear louver for mine as it will match it and give a different look alltogether.  Just my personal touch to what i like.
