Our Duster = Movie Star

Hey all...

As promised.. here are the details about our duster being in the movie "Adventureland" out March 27th... Ryan Reynolds drove our car in it.. however it didnot make the trailer.. hoepfully it makes final cut.. we'll see..

Movie Trailer:

This is an email i tried sending to mopar muscle.... with no response.. so.. anyone with some strings.. feel free....

Mopar Muscle,

First off, I want to say that I love your magazine and have subscribed to it for years.  The excellent tech articles, and features on other great mopars have been an invaluable resources in the building of our mopar projects.   So, thank you.

My father, who worked as an auto detailer throughout his years in college, has instilled in me a love for Mopars. I am envious of some of the cars he had the chance to work on throughout the late sixties and early seventies.  From that point on he always said that he would one day own one of those cars himself.  That day came about 8 years ago in March of 2000 when my brother in-law saw a ’72 Duster for sale in the local classifieds.   We went to check out the car and ended up purchasing it a couple of days later for a few hundred dollars.  Little did we know the amount of work that was needed to get the car to once again be road worthy.  After some research and decoding the fender tag we found out the car was actually a “Gold Duster”, and that’s when we decided that it would be neat to take the car to its stock form.  We kept the slant six in the car with a little cleanup. The interior was in perfect shape and so that was one of the few things we didn’t have to work on.  However, the exterior was in need of a major over haul.  Two new quarter panels,  doors, trunklid, and tail panal are just the “tip of the iceberg”.  After about three years of work,   the car was ready.  Since then, the car has been a great summer past time for my dad and I.  We’ve taken it to many car shows and are always stopped by people reminiscing about the duster that they once owned in their younger years and fathers teaching their sons about the slant six.

At end of the past summer, we were at a show sponsored a local radio station.  When we got home we gathered up all the papers for other shows and left them on the kitchen table.  The next morning my mother was looking through the papers and one caught her eye.  It said that someone wanted our car to use in a movie.  My dad was more than skeptical to say the least.  But she called the phone number on the paper, and sure enough a gentleman came out to photograph the duster and our ’79 Volare.  A few days later we get a phone call from them saying that the director loved our car and wanted it for the “hero” car.

So we looked into it and found out the movie is called “Adventureland” and is the follow-up movie to “Superbad” for director Greg Mottola. From IMDB’s Website “A comedy set in the summer of 1987 and centered around a recent college grad (Jesse Eisenberg) who takes a nowhere job at his local amusement park, only to find it's the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world.” The duster would be driven by Ryan Reynolds (Van Wilder).

Over the course of the next couple of weeks we had to take duster to various locations around the City of Pittsburgh to shoot for the movie.  We got to meet with some of the cast and crew members of the film.  We also got to meet other car guy from the area and even a guy with our “stunt double”.  Overall, it was great learning experience on how exactly movies are made and in particular how some of the car scenes are shot. Hopefully the movie sees the success that superbad had because it would be great to see another mopar on the big screen.

That's great!!!       :2thumbs:    Congradulations on getting your dads car in the movie. I'll have to see this one when it comes out. It looks like it is well deserved  too.
