Rear brake question
« on: November 29, 2008 - 11:54:53 AM »
Does anyone have a diagram of the rear drum set up for a 72 Cuda. I happened to be checking mine yesterday and found the adjuster set up had fallen apart on one side. I know I can just mirror the other side to fix it but I would like a diagram just to make sure both sides are correct. :2thumbs:

Worked on this issue the other day,   leave the cable off the cable guide until you hook the overload spring in the  adjuster lever, then pull the cable over the guide..... after all back together grab the adjuster lever with pliers & pull straight down & it will "cock" & when released should pull in and against the star wheel.    You can work the adjuster by pulling against the cable to see that the star wheel is being engaged.

Please also note that the primary spring goes on before the secondary spring. This is vitally important, as it will keep you from cutting the adjuster cable in two where it goes behind the secondary spring. The clearance is tight here, and putting the secondary spring on first will result in rubbing and eventual failure of the cable.
