Help decode this tag 4 me
« on: November 29, 2008 - 04:34:43 PM »
It.s mine. I've had it since 1980 or so. It is my race car now, and have forgot what it came with over the years.

I know it was a 340 auto with an automatic and console. Mirrors were painted and it didnt have a rallye dash.

Hey Alan,

The a does not look right, should be an "H".
It is a Rallye Red body and Rallye Red roof car, black interior.  What else do you need to know ?

I got the tag in my hand. It def says a6x9   Just trying to remember the insides of the car. It had sway bars n stuff. standard disc brakes as I recall, but cant remember but I think standard steering. It has been a long time now.

Hey Alan.

I do not have a 72 up decoder.  So i do not have a clue what the "a" stands for. i know the 6 is bucket seats and the X9 is black interior.

You would need a build sheet to know what steering wheel it had buddy, these are not in the fender tag codes.

C16 is center console,  But can you check the C56 is right ?

it more than likely would have had the two spoke wheel.

And is the C56 correct ?
or is it C55..........

I have no idea what the C56 is, but the G36 is the left outside racing mirror painted.

C56 is just the modified number for bucket seats after 71. They changed the design somewhere in that time frame that got rid of the plastic seatbacks but I always heard that started in 73. Nicely optioned car Alan.

C56 is bucket seats for 1972.

The A in A6X9 is the trim grade.

Did you get it all figured out Alan?

I had it all figured out but the a6. Thanks Barry. The car probably wont ever go back on the street again. I have everything, but it is all in pieces. I am useing just the windshield frame and pillars. I had considered mailing you the vin and fender tag. I have the cowel, rad support and tittle to, but im not interested in rebuilding the car back to original anymore.

Hey Alan,

Did you build the 72 as a steel shell first and then slowly changed it to its current fiberglass state ?

Didnt need anything from the windshield forward, so it is in the barn in Louisiana, then I mounted glass doors and decklid. Then hurricane katrina blew the shell across the yard when it was on a cart and munched the quarters. The frame rails are at the shop to. So it's a pro stock tube chassis car now. In the mean time, my friend made a fiberglass roof, and now fiberglass quarters.   Big ole jig saw kenny. not worth it anymore.

It was a 9 sec street car all steel before I cut it up
