newbie second time around
« on: December 02, 2008 - 03:57:04 PM »
Not a newbie because I have been on here before a couple of years ago. Had to re-join as I think my old profile must have been deleted or something. Couldn't log in anyway so I started again.

My name is Dave Robson. I live in the North East of England in the UK. I am 49 years old and have had this U code 440 R/T Challenger since 1989.

Three years ago I took my Challenger apart for some minor bodywork, re-paint and some engine work.

But then two years ago I came down with a serious illness (caused by a flu virus of all things) that damaged half my brain and gave me physical limitations. I have been recovering since and I think I am just about OK now. Been working full time for 9 months now. But the first year was a struggle (physically and financially) and work on my Challenger has been slow.

I did make great progress on her this summer but the effort took it out on me and I am back to taking my time so I am fit for the spring. 2009 is going to be MY year.

Sorry it is looking very dusty and messy at the moment.

Car spec;
Full numbers matching 440 auto.
Smallest Hughes Engines solid cam.
Mechanical six pack
Ported 906 heads.
Power will be around 550hp

Trans is upgraded and sports a GV overdrive.
TCS converter around 3000rpm stall.
4.30:1 axle gears.

Suspension is upgraded about 35% stiffer.
Frame connectors.
Quick ratio manual steering.
Manual brakes with 11.75" discs.

It has dipped into the 11s with a similar Hydraulic cam. With the soild lifters and one or two other minor mods I hope it will run consistant high 11s and run to 140mph on the highway.

Sweet ride!! I love the color. Cool interior trim work! Sounds like a very stout motor. Overdrive is a good thing with 4:30 gears!! Sorry to hear of your health dilemma. Hope your health continues to improve. Nothing like a Mopar to sharpen your skills and keep you motivated!! Should be a blast to drive. Thanks for posting and welcome back!! Think I've seen you on FABO website??  Happy motoring!! :2thumbs:

Thanks for the positive comments guys. My car is not to everyones taste. What with the carbon fibre bits and flash engine dress-up. But it is the way I want it and that is all that counts to me. As long as it looks more or less stock from 20 feet away with the hood down I am happy. :grinyes:

It has been way to long since I drove the Challenger. I hope to do plenty of driving next year though. Fingers crossed and money for Gas allowing. You think YOUR Gas prices are high?

I've been clever and stored it by a friend's place an hour away from me. Not to be tempted
