There really isn't much to them. 2-3 hour job on the bench. The hardest part is cleaning the case.

I'll find out this afternoon about the 727. Hopefully it will work out for me. I also just ordered that book and it should be here next week, so I'll have some reading to do. I am thinking that since I will have a few days if I get this transmission it wouldn't hurt to go through it. What do you think about this kit from mancini?

This is where to get your parts. Go with a Transgo shift kit instead.

Awesome thanks. In addition to their master kit (54002 Master kit, TF8, A727 transmission rebuild kit 1972-on) and Transgo shift kit (what's the difference between their stage 1 and stage 2 kits), what else should I replace. Should I get new bands, new clutches.  :dunno: I really appreciate all of the support and info. I am learning a lot.

I have a Transgo shift kit and I love it!!  For the life of me, I can't find my receipt that said what stage kit it was.   :banghead:

I'd tell ya to get a 2.74 low gear set to try to offset the loss in performance you're gonna get with the extra weight and rotating mass of the 727, but they cost more than twice what the gearset for the 904 costs.  :faint:

Sorry but that is definitely not in the budget right now. Realistically I can't afford to do what i am doing, but I have to have my car up and running. So I will find the budget for that. Thanks for the suggestion though. I appreciate all of the info and ideas I am getting. This is why I love this forum so much.

Great, thanks. Rough idea on price for the 3.8 ratio kick down? Never mind found it. Is there any modification needed to install it?

On my old 318 cuda I pirated the low gear set from a junkyard lockup 904 tranny from a Dodge Diplomat. That, the rebuild kit and the TA valve body were under $300. I got 1.8X 60 foot times with a stock convertor and the car was 4-5 tenths quicker than it ever was with the 727/10" convertor it replaced. That's why I like the 904's :2thumbs:

SO this morning I went to check on my car (why I don't know, it's not like I'm going to drive it any time soon) and decided to check the tranny fluid again and it is dark, like really dark almost black dark. I guess it's broke pretty good.  :misbehaving:
