Burnt out resistor on dash wires
« on: December 05, 2008 - 12:12:20 AM »
Somebody knows, that ???
I had in the dash wires a small resistor, the size is about 10 mm long,
this resistor is soldered directly on the wires, without a bracket/holder, nothing.
Nobody can explain me exactly, for what this resistor is.
I need the technical specification to change the defective resistor.

Thanks and greetings from Switzerland.

Andrea

I will check this today.
There is only one resistor soldred directly in the hole dash wires.

Do you happen to have a picture? I have a feeling someone messed with the wiring in your car.

I have seen this done in an attempt to calibrate gauge readings, but this is just a guess.  We can't really tell what it may have been for until we know more about the wire.

Doesn't the "key in buzzer" use a resistor or diode type setup? I remember looking at it while the dash was out and it seemed to be connected to the headlight buzzer or key in buzzer circuitry.  :dunno:

A resistor should have coloured bands around it. These determine the resistance and the silver or gold band indicates % accuracy for the resistance level itis supposed to be. Let us know the colours reading from the gold or silver band and I can tell you the value. However, to the best of my knowledge, Mopar did not ever put a resistor in the wiring other than the ballast resistor on the ignition.

The supply line has the following colors:
2 x red wires and 2 x black wires with yellow tracer
then the 2-pole connector
on the other side from the connector 1 x red wire and 1 yellow wire with black tracer

On the sticker are the following numbers and letters:
W 96555
2983 595

The letters and numbers on the resistor are not more readable.
Around the resistor (resitors) is a cotton tape.
I don't dare to take away the tape.

Thanks for your support :feedback:

well it is clearly a factroy parts & is plugged into the headlight warning buzzer obviously so currnt only flows one direction , not sure what value the diode is as far as curent load but it should be easy enough to replace the diode

The diode should have a number on it. Can you see anything?

Sorry but the diode is burned out, the letters are not more readebel. :pullinghair:
On each side from the wires is a half part from the diode. :clueless:
