So why not go to the body shop and see the car?  Then at least you could put a note in it for the guy when he pics it up to call you.  I think she's having some fun with you guys but I would be all over finding that car if it exists, even if it meant taking a day off work and going to all the body shops in the area to find it.
That was the plan for Saturday afternoon, but the guy who bought it already had it picked up. Mark called her on his cell while I was on the phone with him. She was pretty much saying that the deal was between her husband and this guy and it was out of her hands. She verified that they sold it to him for the same price she (I guess "they"--husband and wife) paid for it. I agree with the other comment on this thread that maybe the guy was just saying he wanted it for a race car, but really knew what it was and was just trying to get his hands on it. As far as the mechanic goes at the body shop, I believe he has no idea what she originally paid for the car. The car is in the Baltimore area now, so anyone up that way, keep your eye out for it in the future. I guess I won't be getting to verify anything. Sorry for the unresolved hype.

I think this lady was just feeding you guys a bunch of hooey. Now her husband is in on it, so now there are 4 people that dont know what its worth. Just too convenient if you ask me. Just another urban legend.

Although I do believe there are still gems waiting to be found out there, I also believe that some people like getting someone on the hook and taking them for a ride. I believe this is the case with that lady.  :sadwavey:

Ok folks, I think Mark figured this out and it sounds very plausible. He called me back today and said "It's the Husband." "What about him?", I said. He said he thinks that she is naive about the the value of the car but the husband isn't. When first talking about the car she was very open with Mark, but a few days later when she started mentioning "the friend",  she didn't seem quite as open with him. He says now he thinks she was being coached.
I believe the car exists and the clueless owner sold it for what she said. However, I think (well Mark thinks and I agree) that the husband found out from her how loose-lipped she was being about the car and crafted the story of the "friend" to throw any curious eyes off. I mean, if you bought this car for dirt cheap, wouldn't you want to make sure that your spouse wasn't going around blabbing about the car, especially the purchase price?  I sure wouldn't want my wife telling just anyone about it. I believe that it's still at the body shop and that she does intend to paint it red, but I think the friend is fabricated. Also, the fact that he wants to cut it up into a racecar should throw anyone off from pursuing it.

When, Mark was on the phone with her today she was being very short and curious with her answers about the car:
"Would you mind if Barry contacted him to show him pictures of his 440 Cuda for a possible trade?"--  "No, I know he wouldn't do that."
"So is there anyway you could get in touch with him for us to see the car?"--"I'll ask, but he's already started on it." (Yeah right, like he was so anxious to start cutting up this rare car that he was on the car trailer with a sawsall while it was going down the road.)

Anyway, at this point, that's where we think the story leads.

We're supposed to still go see their other cars so maybe I'll be able to feel out the story better myself. I'll get pics of the Hemi Roadrunner too.

I think you are being led down a road of BS. Not that things like this dont happen from time to time, but when all these strange things keep happening so you cant eyeball the car, just sends up a red BS flag to me.

I think you guys are way overthinking things here wanting this story to be true.  Why would she need to be tight lipped about if it was 2K, wouldn't matter if it was 200K really. You just bought a Hemi Cuda, the price wouldn't matter.  My  :2cents:

Ha ha, laugh it up fellows, but I think the last scenerio is where it stands. Would you want some guys sneaking around at the body shop where the car is without you there? I wouldn't.
