Frame off restoration?
« on: December 06, 2008 - 03:03:59 PM »
Ok. So I was looking over the 67 last night and was wondering.
1. Can you do a frame off resto on a unibody.
2. Is the 70 Challenger a unibody?
3. What is the length on a 70 Challenger or any E body compaired to a A body?

And now I wait all of four seconds to get an answer.

The closest you'll find to a frame off restoration on a unibody car is a rotissorie restoration, where the car is dissasempled down to the bare shell and placed on a rotissorie making it easier to get to the underneath of the car.

The unibody is the frame, so if you strip it that far then it is technically a "frame off".

Saying it is an "everything off the frame resto" may be more accurate though.....   :roflsmiley:

Any A-body in particular? The '70 Challenger was 191.3 in (4,859 mm) Since this is the CUDA-Challenger forum, I assume you mean a '67 Barracuda? That would be 108 inches (2,743 mm)... I guerss you could "Frame-Off" restore a unibody, if you wanted NOTHING LEFT!

Floormats? Heck with no framerails you don't need those! I guess it would be just a shell, and that would be stretching it (no pun intended)!

Going to put new floor pans and an new roof on mine so I guess I will be replacing the frame on mine.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Has anyone heard of someone putting a sixpack on a 273?
Or would that be too much for a 273?
We have a 273 Commando in the Cuda. So I thought It might be a possibility. :dunno:

I have done that myself.  The 273 runs really good when you do that.  The intake should be shaved to make it fit the heads properly is all.  I put a 340 windage tray in also.  Never had any problems with it.  I ran it for a couple of years like that even raced it back in the day.  Gordon

No such thing as a frame off .Its a frame up or ground up ,taken from old school restorers .It just means the car was a complete restoration . It could be argued that once the front suspension and rear is removed ,the frame rails are now removed  or lifted ie frame up. A smart man would understand the various lingo as one in the same and move on to much more fruitful thoughts .c
