    kowalski challenger at sema

    Did any one take a picture of the vanishing point challenger from sema.
    I read in a article that it was one of the cars used in the making of the movie
    in the 70,s.
    They stated that it had never been washed since the filming.
    But the photo i saw it had a hemi badge on the bonnet and racing mirors.
    Is it real or is someone playing games. :aussie:

    Not sure about at SEMA, but there was a museum in Tennessee? They had the car that hadn't been washed, pretty cool to see.

    They were playin with you. I read the dirt was painted on.

    What are the odds a car from a 1970 low budget movie would never be washed or be rained on during storage, dust from 35 years of sitting  :clueless:

    Yup, the dirt was painted on, however there would have obviously been some real dirt from the action involving the car. If it had a Hemi badge it wouldn't have been used in the 71 original. They used 3 or 4 (seen different amounts on different sites) 440ci Magnums (4-speeds) and 1 383 auto tow high speed car that towed the 67 Camaro into the dozers. In most of the scenes you can pause and zoom in on the hood and clearly see the "440 Magnum" hood emblems, when he's on the highway you can see it best when they come in from the side and zoom in on him in the car checking his mirrors. The 1997 Fox remake made the car out to be a Hemi, not sure if they actually used a Hemi, I doubt it. The scene at the beginning when they're under the hood is a well staged shot under a Charger hood.

    I'm pretty sure that car was from the remake that wasn't to long ago.

      Read the board on the above photo, I was under the impression that there was only 4 cars in total and the 3 stick 440 cars were all but destroyed during filming, the 383 wasn't but was stolen by a hooker and recovered in another town. All cars were supposedly returned back to Dodge as per contract with the film company. They were different colors but were all sprayed white, in one scene you can see green showing through the scratches.   :22yikes:
      The important thing though was that it was a chebby rammed into the bulldozer and not the Challengers.   :2thumbs:

    There's a guy in NZ, down South who believes without a doubt that he has the 383 car. He got it where they filmed around that time, it's B5 Blue from memory. Anyhow, he's hard into the research and knows a lot about the cars. It's a 383/TF727 car and he's spoken to a few people. Be cool if it is the car, not sure it will make it sort after but still a cool car to have if indeed it is and more importantly he can prove it beyond a doubt.
