The M46 Barracuda - What were the differences and how
« on: December 11, 2008 - 05:50:03 AM »
Hey guys I am wanting to get all of the info for the M46 Barracuda and how they are different  ie the Grille and the tail panel being blacked out.  Any additions will be appreciated.  Thanks  Gordon
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

The M46 shared the same 3 piece rear trim as a 70-71 Gran Coupe and 72-74 Barracudas.
This area was blacked out, the trim is on the rear quarters end and the center trim runs along the trunk lid.

The M46 also had a Blacked out section that was painted in organisol which covered the lower portion of the car and covered the sills in Black.  It ran up to the first lowest body line on the Barracuda body and door lines and ran the full length of the car from front to back including the rear quarter behind the rear wheel and also the front fender in front of the front wheel.

This area of Blacked out section is were the simulated scoops were mounted, just in front of the rear wheel itself.
the Black out section was seperated by a Tomato Red on top of a Reflective White pinstripe duo that ran the full length of the car seperating the Black from what ever body color was applied.
Their also was a Blue on Reflective White stripe available but no one that i know of has confirmed what the actual name of the Blue is yet.

The simulated side scoops were also made with different materials.
I have a set that is made with steel as the underlying metal.
Along with that set I have another one that has Aluminum as the underlying metal.
The metal ones are pretty rusty but the aluminum one is in great shape aside from the fact that the studs did not hold very well inside the aluminum.

They had studs that went through the body and nuts that held them on.  Gordon
