Interview Monday
« on: December 12, 2008 - 08:55:21 AM »
Just wanted to let you guys know that I have my first interview with Siemens Electrical on Monday in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.  It's kinduva big deal - they're putting me up in a hotel and everything.  It's for a project scheduling position, but that's really all I know.  The downside is I'd have to commute into downtown Pittsburgh every day, but there seems to be some good housing options and such that won't break the bank.

Anyways, wish me luck.  Of course if this doesn't pan out, I have three other options developing as well!  But so far this is the only one that will keep me in Pennsylvania.  I guess my nickname could be "a few hours..."  :)

I was in the impression you loved the job you have. Why are you still looking to change positions? I would think after your dad pulled strings to get you this job if you leave you will burn a lot of bridges for both of you.  :2cents:

But even so BEST WISHES in your search for a new job.

Oh no no no no - this job is starting to wind down.  Even now there's really not enough to keep two people busy.  We've already approached our managers to get information on possible future assignments, and they have two possible options for me, but no definite ideas yet.

Plus, we're contract workers - we get no benefits, we're basically considered "temporary."  It is not uncommon at all for people to move around in this line of work, and employers know that if they don't keep someone working, they'll go elsewhere.  There's a LOT of opportunity out there.

Before I take any new job I will give my current employer the opportunity to confirm a new assignment for me, but they know how it works.  I'd like to stay with AEP, but I certainly won't burn any bridges on my way out.  We've worked very well together, but the "you gotta do what you gotta do" mantra is very well known around here.  I'm also not leaving until at least the beginning of February.
