Perhaps that car on the promo ad is a pre-production. It has redline tires on it.

i noticed that the GC rocker moulding was missing too.  i would not be surprised if the trail panel trim went missing along with the rocker trim.  typcially the 3-piece was standard, tho i have seen one GC with the 4-piece trim (an LA car).  not sure if it was an error at the factory, or if it was changed after.  i felt up under, and could not find any holes where the 3-piece trim bolts would have been located.

check it out.  the GC has the 4-piece tail panel trim.  (no CGI necessary.)

The one in the ad was a very early car, it does have the Cuda style trim.

That does not make it "correct" for other Gran Coupes though.

That is what i believe happened as well. About that top, it had been on since the 70s. The only other vehicle I ever personally observed that pattern on was a 1970 Mercury Cougar. As clear as I remeber the code for the elastomeric front bumper, i also remember V1X in it's correct location. This GC was coded for the black vinyl top to go along with FC7 In-Violet paint.

Also since i posted the pics of my friend's GC, he stopped by my house totally out of the blue. It's the first time in almost four years we'd seen each other and before he left he mentioned having a bunch of Mopar books he'd like me to have. When I go to pick them up, i'll see if he can shed any other light about his old car.

i used to own a 70 gc fc7 with a white vinal top black int 383 2 bbl i sold it in late 90,s went to the wendy city to be restored   i do have a 70 gc now (project car from he!!)
its a 318 2 bbl  was white with black int  will be blue/blue with theblack strobe stripe and 340

the stobe is a cool stripe.  i am glad to see more GC's restored as GC's!  Mine is an original light blue exterior/ medium blue interior/ black vinyl top.  it was originally a 318, but when i got it someone had already dropped in 440.  so who am i to complain??   i haven't decided if i will put on a hockey stick, leave it blank, or maybe even the stobe.  how is your headliner & console?

1970 Gran coupe was the higher option 318, 904 3 on the tree ,cruise control non ralley guages with wood inlay, deep burnt orange with argent rear panel from factory,( now black will go back to argent) Mutating into a late casted 1969 E-440-4 (.20over) barrel duel snorkel 4-speed with 391 rear gears when done will be lime green. Has Rimblow, upper but no lower console just will have hurst stick out of the floor trim and boot. half way there now. BP23GOE Hardtop no vinyl, I love her like I love my wife.

Because that's the way the LA plant chose to lay out their tags. Once for the roof code and once for the optional vinyl top itself.
